put on test pipes, now i'm smoking!

I put on test pipes the other day and now my vehicle is smoking pretty bad. Is this common with test pipes? DOes moving the O2 sensor out with the non-foulers cause this?
I dyno'd and my AF is still a little lean but, my tail pipes look like a chimney with all the soot.

tig488 Dec 29, 2005 04:39 PM

thats normal, mine did it for a while, its just the tests pipes being broken in, its gonna stink like crap for a while too.

Tony@Performance Dec 29, 2005 05:18 PM

Perfectly normal.

DayBlueZ Dec 29, 2005 05:23 PM

Great! So it goes away? What causes this? The inside getting hot with oil?

Vamos_Rafael Dec 29, 2005 05:25 PM

you have to break in the test pipes meaning inside the pipes they have the new metal lining that burns after its heated when the car is in working temperature

then

since you have no cats, there isnt anything to trap the smoke and bad odor from the exhaust so... it smokes...

DayBlueZ Dec 29, 2005 05:27 PM

Damn i hope so B/C now it smokes like it has 300K miles on it and i bought it from Sanford and Son.

leatherface_ca Dec 29, 2005 05:40 PM

It's normal I had white smokes for 2 weeks when I first put on my resonated test pipes. After that, the smokes were gone...

Z1 Performance Dec 29, 2005 06:08 PM

its the oil burning off from the pipes...perfectly normal and will go away quickly

how much power did u get from the test pipes?? Big improvement on the dyno?

DayBlueZ Dec 29, 2005 06:38 PM

No, i gained 2 HP max but did get 4-5 overall over the whole curve except at top and the TQ was up over the whole curve until the end.
Also i did go from Kinetix HFC to these.

FlorendoCruz Dec 29, 2005 06:50 PM

Damn, people in this forum claim to feel a big diff after installing this mod. Hmm..

why the switch from kinetix HFC to Test pipes??

BobbyRitz Dec 29, 2005 07:10 PM

I just dyno'ed yesterday to build more NA UTEC maps. Test pipes added 5peak whp over stock cats. The under curve suggested 4-7whp over stock cats. Torque improved by 7whp at the peak. The under curve suggested a 0-10 ft-lbs gain over stock cats between 3000 - 5000 rpm.

DayBlueZ Dec 29, 2005 07:38 PM

I have the UTEC on order. I'm hoping that i can play with the timing and the AF to get the HP and TQ that i should be getting.
I thought i would get more power from the pipes.

Larry, you still have the Kinetix HFCs?? Wanna sell them?

DayBlueZ Dec 29, 2005 09:27 PM

yea i do, want them?

UrbanTacticZ Dec 30, 2005 01:50 AM

I have Helix test pipes and mine never smoked that bad? I just smell the obvious rich exhaust. thats about it. Had them on the car for about 3000 miles. And really, only 5-7 hp/torque? Feels like more than that to me =(

From what I remmeber, it really picks up after 3000rpm but it might just be my mind playing tricks on me haha =)
