3 Hours To Install HFC's? Are They Trying To Rip Me Off?

hey guys I just got my ultimate racing hfc's in today and I took them to the same shop that installed my stillen td exhaust. They charged me 150 to do the exhaust and it was done within like 30-40 minutes. Now they're telling me that it will take AT LEAST three hours to install the HFC's. I've seen DIY guys on here before say that it didn't take them more than an hour. Are they ripping me off or is this standard?

That is not standard at all. It should take an hour at the most to install your cats.

SGP put mine in for $48. Charged me half an hour.

chimmike Nov 13, 2006 08:37 AM

they can charge you what they want. They're doing the work.

If that's too much money for you, do it yourself and learn a thing or two.

edwin350z Nov 13, 2006 08:40 AM

way yoo long. did mine in 1hr.

plumpzz Nov 13, 2006 08:57 AM

Theatrix Nov 13, 2006 09:01 AM

Once up on a lift, 45 minutes at most.

JDMFairlady21 Nov 13, 2006 09:18 AM

three hours is right if they're doing it with sticks and stones. geez, 3 hrs.

i can understand it if you were doing it for the first time, with no lift, and not sure of the tools.

Take it to a local tire/muffler shop. Heck, those guys will do it for $20. It's a quick bolt-on job.

titanjc Nov 13, 2006 09:22 AM

LOL it takes an hour on jackstands. They're definitely charging too much.

jtabraham Nov 13, 2006 09:36 AM

if they have a shop manager, go and talk to him. If he's no help, i would look for a new place to get it installed.

davidv Nov 13, 2006 09:39 AM

Does that include removing the motor?

THE TECH Nov 13, 2006 10:02 AM

It may have to do with the fact that they are removing smog devices and are telling you to read between the lines at the fact that they really only will do it if you pay them more money.

semtex Nov 13, 2006 10:06 AM

Umm...let's just say that they're grossly overstating the length of time it'll take for installation. My test pipes took a half hour on jack stands.

Wired 24/7 Nov 13, 2006 10:11 AM

1 hour tops

stein Nov 13, 2006 10:22 AM

2 hrs sitting in the lot and 1 hr to install.

I say DIY! save, learn, enjoy!

+1

It's also why I did mine at the same time I did my headers...
