Factory Exhaust & It's purrr.

I love the exhaust sound on the stock Z's however, I would love a NISMO exhaust - but can't afford right now.

What y-pipe can be added to produce a better note?

Or does anyone have a better suggestion for a budget sound mod?

When we get to a point where ”Which Y-pipe sounds best?” is a serious debate maybe it is time for me to find another forum.

:icon18: That had to be the most helpful answer I've heard in the history of forumkind.

Did I ask what's the best y-pipe? No.

I what y-pipe can be added on a budget that sounds good.

Thanks.

Just save your money for the nismo exhaust. It comes with a y-pipe.

I would search the Classifieds on here. There’s always a Nismo posted.

You can also talk With Jeff here

For a little more than the cost of a y-pipe, buy one of the pre-owned Borla True Duals for sale in the marketplace. It retains stock sound, with a deeper tone, and gives you a nice extra power kick.

Too bad I'm in BC Canada and he's doing that special for SoCal local pickup only :(

It would cost $200+ to ship and duty (6.25% because it's made in Japan).

^Honestly, you should just save up for a Nismo exhaust.
If you are looking to get one shipped from the US, inquire as to whether or not they will ship it using BAX international. This will give you the benefit of clearing it through customs on your own, and you should only be dinged with the taxes.

If you want a bump in sound, a cheap route would be test pipes. TP's with stock exhaust sounds very nice.

Good luck!

yea man dont bother with getting just a y pipe, just save up get a nismo since it comes with the y pipe or any other exhaust you might come across. when i got my Z i just put in test pipes with the stock exhaust and the car sounded nice and revd up quicker so if you want you can go that route as well.

Good info, thanks.

Escobar, I see where you get the majority of your post count. Stop being a troll and flaming my thread.
If you have nothing relevant to say to my original question, then please don't post anything.

You're not a moderator.

Thanks.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! I have been waiting to hear that haha. I completely agree! Don't get me wrong, it does sounds great but it doesn't have the distinct VQ sound. It actually just sounds deep and throaty but not the distinct purr of a VQ engine. The only exhaust (out of the 5 I've had) that could do that is the HKS Hi-Power - which AGAIN contrary to belief sounds super exotic and takes the VQ's distinct purrr to another level. It's time to stop listening to sound clips guys! Hear it in person because that's the only way to tell.

This sounds super exotic? To me, it sounds like a 1.6 litre DOHC Civic engine.

The NISMO exhaust to me sounds more exotic.

The HKS video you posted an exhaust with TEST PIPES! Do matter how great an exhaust is adding TP = crappy raspy noise! Relying on INTERNET VIDEOS is retarded. You HAVE to hear it IN PERSON. I have been through 5 exhausts - all aftermarket, all different sounds. The HKS is by far my favorite exhaust.

1. Hi-tech
2. Nismo
3. TurboXS
4. Greddy EvoTT
5. HKS Hi-Power

Now, after spending that kind of money and time - not to mention my own labor into switching exhausts - on finding the perfect one, do you really think I'd install a POS fart-can exhaust on my car?

The closest video I could find thats remotely similar sounding to this sexy exhaust is listed below:
