Get the Borla ... or Crawford's Plenum ??

Need advice on what to do. Basically, I have come into an extra $650 to spend on the Z. I don't know whether to get the plenum or the exhaust(true dual of course).

Dr. Bonz, thanks for making this SO difficult for me. I was set on the plenum until I heard that clip of you driving away .. yummy! :)

Help me out guys...what to do what to do ???

Jim

well...... both offer nice gains ........but , although i dont have either yet, i will be getting the plenum first......... im a honda driver...... and i like my cars to pull hard up top........and 20 whp by redline sounds hot to me ....... i think it will benifit u more ..... think of it this way .... well this is how i see it.......... u dont need that extra flow on the out side, untill your bringing in that extra flow on the intake side.........

no doubt the borla sounds out of this world ....... but its not gonna cut it by itslef at first........ id want my Z to be able to back its bark............... and just think .. everyone will still think its stock!!!!!

Zzzow! Aug 5, 2003 08:43 PM

I also don't have either... yet! But I am getting the Plenum first. For one it adds 20 hp at top!! I'm also waiting to see what Injen Exhaust Version 2 does and sounds and then I'll compare it to the Borla.

to add one more thing ... when getting the exhaust ... if u plan on getting test pipes ... id porbaly to both at the same time .... from what ive been hearing ... the borla + test pipes feels strong and sound mean awesome!!!!

When is your pops going to order something?

Why is the Z in your fam still relatively stock?

KONVERTER Aug 5, 2003 09:34 PM

i say start at the back and work your way forward...

no reason to really move more air to get stopped by the stock emissions / exaust...

No matter what kind of exhaust you have, the plenum you WILL notice more immediately than the Borla. I have both, but got the plenum first, and it makes a BIG difference :D.

Hi,

I've been following this Crawford Plenum mod and I'm really intrigued by it and seriously considering it.

Can you elaborate on how it made a "big difference".

In my car, the power seems to drop offabove 6000 rpm. The car seems to accelerate faster when I shift at 6000 rpm instead of going to redline. I've read that although peak HP only goes up a bit, the plenum adds 20 hp over stock at the top end.

Did you install it yourself?

There's also something confusing on the Crawford site. What is the "Plenum Core Charge"?

i just ordered the injen ses 2 days ago. i was trying to decide wich mod between the 2 as well! im going to wait and see how this NEW plenum turns out, and when the smoke clears, im getting one or the other! but ill admit, i like the idea of retaining my stock STB. but im all about performance, not looks, so if this new plenum cant compare to dougs, well then i hope doug still has one in stock for me!! someone told me the price went up on it too???? is that true doug???

The plenum is a SIMPLE DIY project... with handtools and never doing it before should never take more than an hour.

The stock plenum causes the car to "choke" up top. This plenum fixes that, and allows the car to continue to make power to redline. I've always driven Hondas, and the first time I drove a Crawford Plenum equipped car... all I could say as it reminded of my GSR with the way it pulls up top.

The unit costs $500, pending you return your stock plenum so that it can be rebuilt into a new piece for another customer. If we don't get your original plenum back, we have to charge you $200 so that we may order another plenum from Nissan at a loss.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do!

Thanks for the info. Would it make sense to keep the stock plenum in case I have to take the car to the dealer? I want to avoid any hassles on warranty.

:)

The Plenum will instantly give you a smaile across your face when you try it. Believe me when I installed it I was amazed by the instant power. That is if CRAWFORD Z isn't backordered already. The reason not to keep the plenum is you have to spend 200 dollars for the core charge then. If it comes down to it you can always buy a new one from the dealership right?

Oh yah and if you do want a BORLA let me know I have 3 left in stock

JimRHIT Aug 6, 2003 08:34 AM

Strictly, Please PM with pricing info on the Borla.

Thanks
Jim

Just put the Crawford on my "G" 2 hours ago. Now the sucker pulls strongly all the way to redline. I'll report more as I put some miles on it. But gawd if now feels strong. I also have a home made Dual exhaust with a Magnaflow X Muffler, "Z" intake tube, K&N Filter, and a five ground wire set.

Well, that's what i did. I am keeping my stock plenum, just in case I gotta take it to the dealership for some warranty work. I paid the extra $200.

Yes.

We installed the plenum on a G35 Sedan, and it made a WORLD of difference.
