Question about Stillen HFC's
hey guys, i was wondering.. im looking to get the HKS exhaust and stillen HFC's for my nxt mod. so i just came across a pair of Stillen HFC's. now my questions are:
I do not have the HKS exhaust yet, is there any welding required in order to install the cats, or do they replace the stock cats and are simply held in place by bolts? Will i notice a change in sound due to the Stillen Cats, on a stock exhaust? thanks! and for those of you who might have the Cats, how do you like em, any problems with them? thx a lot |
This belongs in the exhaust section. Moved

It's bolts on. Yes, aftermarket HFC or TP will makes louder sound than stock cat.
|
They replace the stock cats, no welding required.
The sound will increase. They are a good product but the cel might come on after a while. |

I assume the photo above is accurate. I see no braces to attach to the car. |

It depends on the shop, but $100+ in general.
I'll put up pics in a lil bit hold on. |
i had stillen hi flow cats, i purchased them new from stillen, they were not good at all. they were longer than my stock cats, the pipes hung down to far and caused my exhaust to hit my rear crossmember and to sound like a can hitting the car over every bump and rev. they also went bad within the first two weeks of installing them and made my powerband loose power. i had it looked at and dyno. there was a huge downspike in the dyno. as soon as i took them off the curve was normal and i got my power back.
i would recommend fast intentions. great customer service, price and product.

Don't know about the Stillen HFC's. I have the Berk high flow cats and along with the Kinetix plenum the powerband is very consistant also the sound is louder with the HKS exhaust system. Easy install if you have access to powertools, and some wd40 to loosen the bolts oohhh & plenty of long extensions, I used about 2 feet of extensions to get the drivers side from inside of the engine bay. The drivers side is the tough one to get to with the steering running right there, do it yourself, it is easy enough.

hmm interesting! thanks, i got the Stillen cats and already had them installed yesterday. like you said it does change the sound of the stock exhaust a little bit. it sounds more deep and you can def hear more air flow at higher rpms. it also has a higher pitch sound at higher rpms ive noticed. i called around for installation and i got diff quotes ..but all between $120-180. however i asked one of my buddies if he knew any shops that would do it for cheaper and what do you know...he knows the guys from "2Kracing" and they were willing to do it for me at a lower price. i ended up paying $70 and more than likely have found myself a new performance shop to do all my mods at a lower price! here is the vid of my cats:
