Default Who would like to take part in this test?

Okay I'm trying to figure out the cause for the infamous rattle noise people get when they have a Y pipe in conjunction with test pipes. I've heard on here that people with HFC's and Y pipes dont have this issue and that it is because HFC's utilize the support beam that the factory cats use.

So to test this ; I am asking people that still have their stock cats, to unbolt the support beam and simply do some reving and let us know if you get the rattle noise.

Those unfamiliar with the noise can look it up on youtube by doing a search for 350z testpipe install noise .

Thanks to all that take part in this test!

take it to a muffler shop, pay them like $40 or $60 and they will fix it by putting another bracket on your setup. O and its the pipe that ratttles on the back "W" brace under the car.
i had this rattle for months and i tried different things and it never worked. just take it to a muffler shop. its worth it trust me.

or if you're welding inclined you could weld the brackets back on to bolt the brace back on?

I think these guys are right D_K. In my pm I did leave out some findings, sorry. But if I held just one of the pipes during the testing the noise almost fully cancelled. This makes sense the that the support would fix 90% or more of this rattle noise. Just be carefull having brackets welded on there, for those that are aggressive drivers. I have read about people ripping holes in the test pipes, from the bracket getting pulled off.

I am just going to deal with it, my exhaust setup sounds pretty horrible anyhow until full throttle, then I smile.

well I went and had the inside pipe of the right header welded to the outside pipe to see if thats what was vibrating and also did the same to the test pipe on the right side and I still have the noise. I think I'll just live with the noise until I go TT and get a true dual exhaust.

I am not following what you acually had done. Did you only address only the right side of the exhaust? Did you use the OEM support bracket from the OEM cats, and weld connecting points to both test pipes?
