Excess heat from berk hfc's
Anyone install a set of high flow cats on their 350 and get heat up through the cabin? I just installed a set of berks and they are heating up the floor to the point I can smell the carpet burning. I'm going to put the oem heat shields over the berk hfc's and hopefully that will take care of the problem.
All the reading Ive done I havent seen anything on excess heat from the hfc's or what anyone did to stop it. |
Definitely something wrong there, they should not be heating up the car any more than stock exhaust parts. Do you have a leak somewhere possibly that's directing exhaust to the body of the car? Radiant heat really shouldn't be able to give enough heat to burn the carpet in the car unless something is very wrong.

I've had Berk HFC's on my car for two years and not had any problem like this. I'd look for an exhaust leak like Italianjoe said. Or, maybe there is something wrong with the engine causing the cat to overheat. Any codes or anything?

I just put these on recently but haven't had any problems with heat in the cabin or through the floor? Did you or the shop put them in and use new gaskets and torque them properly? Maybe they're not seated right and they're leaking

I probably shouldn't of said burning the carpet as much as making the carpet warm and im getting a slight smell through the car. It could wear off but I don't want to take any chances. If we took the het shields off the factory cats and put them back on the car Im sure you would get some heat as well so its the same with these berks I'm figuring. Everything is lined up perfectly with no leaks. I installed them myself on a lift with my buddy who is a journeyman mechanic.
You guys have to feel some heat on your floor next to your gas pedal. Just check it with your hand next time you're in the car after its running for a while |
Completely normal, if you compare the OEM cats vs aftermarket cats you can see that the heat shields are much better on the OEM's
Just live with it or remove them |

There is no heat shield on berks lol so i removed the old ones from the factory cats and fabricated them onto the berks. No more heat issues.

There you go...

A+ for effort lol
I just hope they are secure so you don't get any rattles |
The shields worked out perfect. They are nice and tight around the hfc's with no rattle. I was surprised actually
