Legal to remove both muffler and resonator?/

okay so I live in Ontario and I am planning to remove the resonator and muffler on my Z. I have a few questions

1. will I get ticketed?
2. is it legal
3. does it damage my engine if I remove both?
4. will I pass emission test without both?

travlee 01-21-2015 04:53 PM

1. depends on cop
2. usually, but only illegal if you get caught
3. you will be lean some
4. no

terrasmak 01-21-2015 07:18 PM

#4 - has nothing to do with emissions, yes you will pass.

lol one of you said no the other said yes.

The cats are the last piece of the emissions system, behind the cats has nothing to do with emissions. It will pass.

Ontario, Canada?

If so, yes it is illegal. Yes you could possibly get ticketed. It will pass emissions because the current etest is just a simple scan of your OBD2 system.

Without resonator and muffler your car will be crazy loud. I have HFC's, resonated y-pipe and a Momentum single exhaust and I'm just waiting for the day I get a ticket for it being too loud. However, I don't drive like an asshat and whenever I see a cop a stay out of the throttle even more. Technically speaking, my Momentum exhaust is illegal because it is a "straight through" exhaust.

Straight out of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act:

Muffler
75. (1) Every motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and excessive smoke, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, straight exhaust, gutted muffler, hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device upon a motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 75 (1).

...

Unnecessary noise
(4) A person having the control or charge of a motor vehicle shall not sound any bell, horn or other signalling device so as to make an unreasonable noise, and a driver of any motor vehicle shall not permit any unreasonable amount of smoke to escape from the motor vehicle, nor shall the driver at any time cause the motor vehicle to make any unnecessary noise, but this subsection does not apply to a motor vehicle of a municipal fire department while proceeding to a fire or answering a fire alarm call. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 75 (4).
