Question Non HR intake question

Ok.. I am not happy with the way the Non-HR Intake routes under the driver side headlight.

I know the HR has twin intakes, but is it possible to use one side of the HR Intake on the High Rev engine to route in front of the radiator? I like that idea a lot better than under the headlight.

If anyone has done this or thinks it could work, please let me know.
Also without spending $300+ for the HR intake, is there a way to buy only one side?

Thanks

OK, I will give you this one.... You can get a Z1 intake that will do what you are trying to do but that will cost you $300. Want a cheaper alternative, get a short ram.... I have a Stillen intake I can sell to you if you choose to go that route =).

And WHY do you wanna do this? For increased airflow or for aesthetic purposes?

Thanks for the replies everyone.

My reasoning behind this, is because I live in an area that tends to flood a lot. Since my Z is my daily driver, I don't like the idea of the filter being under the headlight and so close to the street... in the fear sucking up water.
With the HR style, it at least brings the filter higher up and can give it a little bit more protection.

Does anyone have the HR style, that could possibly toss me the lengths of the tube pieces?

Not sure of what you're thinking, but the air intakes on the DE and HR Zs are on almost the same plane and same height from the street. Both are located to the side (not under) of the headlights and as high up as the hood line allows. The HR "style" does NOT put the air intake any higher or provide any more protection than the DE.

Since we have another thread about flooding the trunk of a Z33, it needs to be said: don't drive your Z into a flooded intersection or roadway. DD or not, they just weren't built for fording rivers.

Yes, there are 2 intakes that does that and put the filter vertical under the light. Most HR intakes will put them behind the crash bar which is slightly higher. But if you DD the best thing is to stay with a short ram that's what I've been running for the last decade lol. I am switching to a long tube now, because I hardly drive the car and only when it's dry out.

That type of aftermarket CAI is worse than OEM for water intrusion.

The Nismo r-tune intake has a "Water By-Pass Filter" up at rad height, not sure if any others do ?

...Or you could make one for the intake you have.

The intake on the car when I purchased it, and it looks a lot like this one.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/WRINKLE-FINI...lYq4JQ&vxp=mtr

The car sits low enough as it is, I just want to get the filter out of the danger zone...lol
I know my Z is not a submarine, and I would never mistreat any of my cars, by driving into high water. It's just that this CAI places the filter in the driver side fender well underneath the driver headlight. Now in a state like Cali, NV, or AZ where you don't get flash flooding, this intake would probably be ok, but down in the s**t state of TX... Yeah not so much.

As i said - make your own water bypass

https://conceptzperformance.com/aem-...34_p_25318.php

Or as someone else said "get a short tube"

Or go back to OEM...best idea

That's ALL your options

or you could just get the Injen intake. It locates it directly in front of the radiator like you are talking about.
I've driven in rain plenty of times without a problem, I'd only fear driving through huge puddles, or spraying the filter with water while the vehicle is running.

I am gonna get the piping, and craft my own on the measurements from the Injen intake, $20-$30 is a lot easier on the old pocket book...

No offense.. $200 for the Stillen is a lil high for what you get... I don't have to have name brand... when they all function the same... can get the same type aluminum piping form local metal store, and have it bent to spec... and it will look just the same as the $500-$600 Extremely Over Priced Injen CAI kit...lol
