Trading in 350Z with Test Pipes or HFC
I'm in the market for a new car. My 350Z is listed for sale private party, but I am getting impatient. I'm currently running the Motordyne ART pipes. It's my understanding that I can't trade it into a dealer running test pipes since that liability would fall back on me since I modified it away from complying with emissions standards. Can I switch the test pipes out with HFC and trade it in? Or does it have to be OEM cats?

i would be patient and sell it outright, but if you want to trade it in... i would think oem would be best.

No emissions testing in FL, so I'm not sure it's even an issue. If in doubt, ask the car dealer involved, and if necessary, you can probably find a local Z owner to swap parts with you.

^^^ Dean is right, but this is the reason I never sold my oem cats when I upgraded.

Just install your stock cats, simple and easy.

I sold my stock cats whenever I upgraded because naive me didn't think about the day I'd sell my Z and upgrade cars. However, I did contact a dealership that has the BMW I want, and they said they'll take my Z despite the illegal exhaust mods. As long as they're willing to put that in writing when I trade it in, I think I'll be fine. If they resell my car to a Florida buyer, they're fine, but the neighboring states do have emissions testing so they'll want to be careful when selling it. Not really my problem though if they put it in writing that I'm not liable.
