New Owner - Intake Exhaust
Hey guys noob here.
Just bought a 2003 Z performance trim.
44k miles on it really nice well kept for car.
I'm keeping as close to stock as possible but do want a nice intake/exhaust setup.
I don't mind spending $1,000-$1,500 for a quality exhaust since I found such a nice example of a Z.
With performance in mind, I would love to hear suggestions for intake/exhaust setup. I don't want it crazy loud but don't mind some noise.

Great reading comprehension DarkZ03. OP asked about intake and exhaust. If you don't think a K&N or similar oiled cloth intake lets more dirt into the engine, spend 5 minutes doing some homework. There is no bigger scam in the auto parts industry than the vendors of such crap.

Well it sounds kinda like you said not to get either as you don't mention the intake or exhaust. No need to do research I'm a tech and know all about that garbage, but there are good stock alternative filters that flow higher and still filter as well.

Well, neither here nor there, I got dcains' msg.
But there's no "hate of these cars" in any of this or none that I detect in any msgs of late. Just re-hashing of answers directed at the newcomer questions. And that is that there is more to be gained through other modifications than alleged "power mods."
In an ideal world, one would want it all.... enough power to peel paint off the car while accelerating to the limit of W-rated tires AND an ability to turn a corner at said speed without brakes; but the reality is that most people do things in stages, whether it be for budget sake or pragmatism, likely both.
dcains merely suggested putting the piggy bank dollars towards the handling aspect BEFORE the "power pennies" - which will actually be "mega dollars" when an owner realizes that "meaningful, for real, documentable, and I-kin-feel-it" power gains can only be had by an impellor of some sort forcing more air down the motor's throat with software to boot.

From experience, if I had $1,500 for a DE 350Z...
JWT Pop Charger Intake - $110
Z1 HFC - $364
Whiteline Differential Bushing Kit - $98
Hotchkis Sway Bar Kit - $398
Z1 Brake Upgrade Package (Slotted Rotors, Hawk HPS Pads, Motul RBF 600 Fluid) - $514
Total - $1,484
I think most would agree on here I touched on some of the 350Z's shortcomings as well as simple fairly inexpensive upgrades that will make a noticeable difference.

Diff bushing was pretty bad, and if the OP doesn't want to go through all that trouble he can get the inserts made by Whiteline, but coming from somebody that had the inserts, might as well do the full bushings.
OP, are you mechanically inclined?

I hear ya and knew you understood but just clarifying and making the point about "more suitable mods" for all the newbies who haven't seen all of the back n' forth threads about "which mods are best".
