ple·num ( P ) Pronunciation Key (plnm, plnm)
n. pl. ple·nums or ple·na (pln, pln)

1. An assembly or meeting with all members present.
2. A condition, space, or enclosure in which air or other gas is at a pressure greater than that of the outside atmosphere.
3. The condition of being full; fullness.
4. A space completely filled with matter.

i like upper intake manifold better, then plenum :)

now... with the engine sucking in, would the enclosure not be at a pressure less than outside? it would only become a plenum if it were forced induction...

hmmm

I've had nightmares of that thing on the left...

I think he accidently hit the "new thread" button instead of the "post reply" button in another thread. Maybe it was the APS Plenum thread.

ElvishasaZ 07-15-2004 02:20 PM

who knows what he meant but I know one company that has one in the works...........

APS version

Can someone give me some background on the chick and why she is so god damn scary? I don't like to say the work Plenum, makes you sound like you have a lisp or something. I vote for intake manifold.

You can't have a "lisp" on a word that doesn't have the "S" sound in it!

Anyway buddy, here is my reply to your post:

Finally the truth comes out about the damn word "plenum". I cant stand the word, and I always originally referred to it as an intake manifold. I tell people we make a "plenum" and they are like, what!!???

Its not even that bad when people dont know what a "plenum" is, but it sounds silly to me and I dont even like saying the word.

As I understand it, the flange, runners, and plenum make up the intake manifold. The plenum is the chamber at which the individual cylinder runners connect.

PhoenixINX 07-15-2004 03:30 PM

Intake pipe === Into...

Throttle body === Into...

Upper Plenum, which flows through the runners of the lower plenum === Into Alas...

THE Intake manifold.

By removing your LOWER plenum you will see this, it is very clear what it is.

Had I known this post was going on, we had a extra IM sitting on the shelf I would have taken a picture of.

The term PLENUM is NOT that uncommon, domestics have been using it for decades. As for import guys, check out supraforums.com, and the E46 M3 boards... they are more into aftermarket plenums than we are.

Guess thats where diffinition 3 & 4 comes in:

3. The condition of being full; fullness.
4. A space completely filled with matter.

Guess it's full of Air when throttle is open. :D
