Default Purpose of Stillen Y Pipes??

My friend has one that he hasn't used and wants to sell it to me. He told me that i can bolt it onto my factory exhaust and it will make it sound louder with some power gains.

Is this true

should i pay more for his stillen or just buy this one off ebay?

The big issue w/ y pipes is the flex portion. Its tough to get this right or use a high quality part. This is the reason the nismo/stillen etc brands are so expensive.
