Any High Mileage 6spd 350z's w/o trans problems

Hey, I have an 04 with 10,000 miles. I mainly use it as a cruiser and drive it pretty hard. By reading this forum I am getting pretty worried that most 350z's have transmission problems. Since i don't put much miles on her i worried ill get the problems once warranty is up. This makes me real hessitant about keeping it past warranty. Most cars that i own i keep for 10+ yrs and i want to do the same with the 350 but don't want to put multiple transmissions in her. Does this problem consistently show up with most 350's? Any warning signs before grinding(my transmission is real notchy)? Is there anyone out there with 50,000+ miles on there tranny? Thanks for any input.

I'm on 54,000 miles. No gearbox problems.

Not to be stickler for facts, but is this a personal observation or do you have some objective data?

how about the 37 page post on replaced transmissions?

There are more than 90,000 350Zs on the road. To me most means more than half or 45,001 transmissions either replaced or worked on. Objective reliability data from trusted sources such as Consumer Reports does not reflect these numbers. Granted, there are 350Z transmission problems, but it is far from a catastrophic manufacturing dilemma.:)

80K still on original trans and clutch and a early 03 touring

barthelb Feb 6, 2006 10:48 AM

Early 03' no tranny problems so far. I have a slight problem but i think its due to the clutch. If you don't let it warm up and try to shift to 5th by going through the gears fast. 5th will grind when going in. After its warm i don't get any grinding and this is with 450+whp and 52kmiles

Hey Davidv i don't have any definititve information but am pretty worried considering the amount of transmission replacements. Do you know if consumer reports has come out with some 3 yr quality results on the 350? I haven't seen any yet... hope they won't be too bad. Had a 95 nissan altima before this.. was a great car but went through one transmission and the second one was about to go before i sold it. I figure if there this much problems with ones with less than 30,000 miles i can't imagine the amout of problems that will come out when more reach higher amounts of miles.

yea im on my 3rd transmission right now and im praying that once my warranty is up i dont go through another.

Concerning the transmission, Nissan has made considerable improvements from 2003 to 2004, and 2004 to 2005. The data above is age weighted so that older vehicle are not penalized simply because they are old.

i have an 04 and just crossed the 36000 mile mark so i'm hoping nothing else goes wrong. Anyways i've through one transmission and clutch plus a bunch of other dumb things. I love the car and would go through at least a couple more before I had any regrets.

'03 with 45K About (~3500 miles from tracking) and no tranny problems. *knocks on wood*

Armitage Feb 6, 2006 11:56 PM

My friend had the tranny in her 2003 Touring replaced at about 57k.

'05s & '06s have same CD009 version trans...

Borla350 Feb 7, 2006 08:59 AM

Did they switched the type of transmission used from the 03's to 04's?

HarvesterUT Feb 7, 2006 12:31 PM

the headlights have only a white circle? whats wrong with them? lol

sorphin Feb 7, 2006 06:44 PM

I have a new 06 ZR, and if what it's doing keeps up, it'll be going to the dealer for a tranny lookat... i come out of work, go to put it in reverse, clutch in, push down on shifer, move it over, it won't go through the gate... usually takes anywhere from 2-4 tries before it budges.. anyone else seen this?
