Bad clicking noise when take off and slow down

Hello all, I have a problem that the dealership wont deal with. I have an 05 Z and whenever i start up in 1st gear ( or any gear for that matter ) it will make a bad clicking noise in the rear of the car about 2 or 3 times. When i let off the gas with it still in gear, it will make the same clicking noise again. Or when i shift it into 2nd gear it will do the same clicking noise. When it first started it only did it in 1st gear and didnt do it when i down shifted. Any ideas on what this is?

I took it back to the dealership where i bought it and they said that they could not hear anything and that it was just me.

Any ideas on the problem would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This is your rear axel thats producing the clicking noise. Its a known issue and should be covered under warranty.

Not a problem. :)

Sometimes you just need to know what to look for. ;)

I had the same problem and now the dealership is replacing the transmission and flywheel??? I heard it may be the axle needing lube?? thanx for the info.

Nforce1 07-07-2006 05:46 PM

I just got mine fixed today...

Even though there is a TSB for this issue, they said it was only covered under the 3 year/36,000 mile warrenty. Being that Im at 44,000 miles, they wouldnt cover it. Cost me $170 to fix.

Are they allowed to deny a TSB fix due to mileage??? I was thinking to write a letter to Nissan USA about this. They should have covered it... if there is a TSB, what does it matter what my milage is??

zxpwr 07-07-2006 06:33 PM

TSBs are only reference for dealers, and are not required do services for free if car is not under warranty.. but some dealers are nice enough to cover portion of the cost and some would cover the whole thing..

The rear axle is part of the drive train. Make a simple drawing for the service manager. Engine...transmission...drive shaft...Point out all the parts. It will be a free training session.

Then tell him to give you your money back or you will take off his freaken head!

Thanks guys for your help. Had to print off that bulletin and hand it to them, for them to realize thats what it was. they had to order the grease??? and the flange's and said they will call when they get in.

I dont know if it would have gotten fixed if you guys didnt help me with where the noise was coming from

lilchief 07-13-2006 08:04 AM

I had the same problem about a week a ago. They did the same thing to mine with the grease and it did help. No more noise coming from the back.

yea I noticed mine clicking and had them take care of it while they were changing my oil they just happend to have the parts they needed in stock.

Yep, have an '05 myself and it's the rear axle clicking problem everyone is talking about. I was under 3/36,000 miles, so it was fixed for free under warranty. Only took an hour for the dealer to fix so I don't think it's very hard to do.

AZNNBLK 07-13-2006 08:04 PM

which dealer in the bay area did u take it to? i think i have the same issue and am thinking bout talkin to the dealer.. i only have 17K on my 05

Connell in Oakland. Might be kinda far for you if you're from SUnnyvale.

dkmesa350z 07-13-2006 08:53 PM

It sounds like one of the TSBs on the '03s. Clicking coming from rear axel in 1st, 2nd or reverse. It should be as simple as replacing a couple of bolts and the Nissan dealership should do it under warranty

MRfire 07-14-2006 09:24 AM

I had mine done 2 months ago and now it's back...same as before. The TSB does crap...don't even waste your time.
