White Smoke Coming out of Exhaust please Help!

My car smokin pretty bad from the driver side of the exhaust. I have a tru dual exhaust now. I don't have an X or H pipe. I have alot of white smoke comin out of the car and i dont know why. I know The Z smokes a little when u hit the gas all the way, but my car smokes when i accelerate, downshift, or when i just go from a dig. I have headers, straight pipes, and dual exhaust. Please please help me with some information and tell me what to do or where to go cause i am really worried. I really need ur help.

Does it look like steam? Have you checked your radiator fluid level? Last time I saw white smoke, especially from just one side, it was a blown head gasket. Water getting boiled and blown out through the exhaust.

Most likely:

The engine is burning coolant.
Bad fuel injectors.

Are you sure that its white smoke and doesnt have a blueish tint? If its oil burning it could be a shot ring.

The diagnosis is simple:

Mark the coolant level with a black laundry pen.
Drive the car.
Did the coolant level decrease?

ok here ya go

FIRST THINGS FIRST,,,,,are you absolutely 100% positive there is no oil smoke??? Thats what i thought also, but unless its a huge cloud youwont tell....i smoked at anything over 2500K rpm when accelerating somewhat fast, it was a small cloud...but if i wot it would shoot out a larger cloud then stop, it would also smoke if i did city driving then say i pull in somewhere and rev teh motor a few times it would smoke the worse....didint really notice much smoking during down shifting....

now the fix,,,,i took it to a Z specialist (Z tech longwood florida) this was after i took it to nissan and they did a comp check and ecu check,,,,they found nothing wrong with the car,,,perfect compression and nothing on the comp,,,nissan couldnt explain why my car would smoke accelerating and while city driving for no reason.....at Z tech the owner ran my car for a day....home and back and to lunch,,,he wasnt sure where to start and he also did the comp check and comp check,,,everything was fine....he decided to flush the engine....3 TIMES

Now he did this because in the Left side of this motor runs alot hotter then the right,,,oil sludge is very common here....he took the valve cover off and cleaned all the ports....now i bought my car used, and when i purschaced my car the first thing i did was switch to AMSOIL OIL and TRANNY fluid....this can be bad if the person before you ran regular oil and was kind of lazy on the oil changes.....as you know amsoil breaks up sludge so it caused it to break up all sludge build up and put it everywhere.....causing the motor to work harder in higher rpms or when motor was warmed up.....

now after these flush's we took the car for a test run, "white" smoke still appearing....now we are really confused...comp wont pick up a damn thing and his engine flush didint work,,,no oil leaks,,,

next something with the fuel....we decided to clean all injectors....after he cleaned the fuel system, the smoke had decreased by 75%.....i ran it for a while and it would smoke but not near as bad....I stopped into advance and bought Fuel system cleaner that they had there.....i think it was an STP injector and fuel system cleaner...it stopped completely for a while....then started smoking a little two weeks later......

finally Jim at JWT.....Avee at Z tech knows jim personally so we decide to call Jim and see what he thought about this mystery......he thought we should do what we already done....engine flush, fuel system clean.....and other then that he HAD KNOW IDEA WWHAT TO DO....he was clueless and didnt have any ideas on what do to on this car,,,,never herd of this or seen these symptoms on a non-turbo car

here we are today my car has randomly stopped smoking for a month now dnt know why or how neither does Avee at Z tech , or Jim at JWT.......so thats y i say " good luck"

now you know why i didnt type the first time

Hey guys, just an update, he is one of our locals. Yes his coolant level was reducing (dramatically) so he took it to a shop and had a compression test done. One of his head gaskets is going bad.

Thank for the follow-up.

Thread revival!! I recently had this problem as well and I'd like to share my solution. I have a 2003 touring with test pipes and the motordyne xyz pipe and awhile ago it started smoking like crazy. Thick white smoke with a funny sweet but also like oil burning smell. The smokescreen was fun for awhile but got old quick. The first thing I checked was when I put on the plenum spacer i got the iso thermal one which comes with its own throttle body coolant system so the old coolant hose hookups (nipples... lolz) were just open in the engine after the maf so it was not only letting in unmonitored air but also water vapor and moisture which could cause the smoke. Got 6 in of fuel line hose and 2 bolts along with 4 clamps to plug them puppies up. That helped immensely but the problem somewhat persisted. I checked and rechecked all the bolts and found nothing... I was checking the spark plugs and accidently pulled up on the hose connecting to the pcv valve and it gave easily so I checked it and the pcv valve had snapped in half and had just been sitting on top of the housing bumping and jostling around... I ordered a new one and checked what a broken pcv could cause and low and behold it was smoke in the exhaust, I put the new one in and problem solved!!

Smoking only under full throttle

Hi can someone help point me in the right direction i have an 03 350z has headers catless down pipe with hks rep exhaust i recently replaced the valve cover gaskets because i had a leak in the passenger side and after a little hassel with diagnosing a vacum leak it runs great but now when im exelerating 90 to 100% of throttle and hit 5,000 rpms i can see alot of smoke behind me it only does this under load if i just rev it without acelerating it does not shoot out any smoke? I thought maybey pcv but my pcv is not broken no leaks in it . ?? Can anyone help?

bealljk 12-27-2019 07:10 AM

what color is the smoke?

do you have any pics or videos?

i do not its white and smells like burning oil but i dont belive its a head gasket or rings due to the fact it dosent smoke at all driving it normal or when i rev it to 6k only when i hit about 4500 to 6000 rmp when giving it 100% throttle but it has to be under load??? This is why i am confused only thing i can think is pcv valve pooring oil into the intake but its brand new ?

A white color exhaust is burning coolant. Your engine burns coolant that leaks into the cylinders. That happens when there is a warped head or a faulty head gasket, or some of both. If you only see this at a specific RPM-range, that simply means the gasket leaks when a specific load (pressure) is placed upon on the engine.

It is burning oil its a blue tint smoke but where is it comming from car never smoke a bit before i change the valve covers and seals? Could it be leaking maybey on the back side of the motor where i cant see it?

So, definitive answer, is it blue or is it white?
If you have smoke coming out of your exhaust then you would not see the leak no matter where it was because it would be leaking into the intake/combustion chamber.

I'd recommend doing a compression test. Usually this is caused by bad rings or valves

it is blue but woukd rings go bad like instantly after it was running so healthy before? And ive romoved the intake tube leading to the throttle body and my fire wall has some oil on it? Maybey its not burning in the heads but just the outside of the exhaust?
