How do you guys get an accurate reading on the F'n dipstick?!

How do you guys get an accurate reading on the dipstick? Both my Z and my bro's G have Mobil 1 so I was checking for oil consumption. I took out the dipstick on both cars and there's oil all over the stick. I wipe it off and take another reading - same result. Is there a secret on how to get a good reading on the dipstick? It's not my first time checking the oil level but damn, today I'm freakin' frustrated. Help~~~

Take the dipstick out and let it sit for an hour after driving... By then all the oil should have drained from the valve train back to the oil pan.. Clean the stick and check it.. Thats how I get my readings

check it first thing in the morning before you crank the engine. Works for me.

+1

This is how I do it too. What a pain in the a$$. You think Nissan would have made the dipstick a little easier to get at.

Awlful lot of threads on this--- Best to let the car sit so the viscosity of the oil is ambient, like over night, also so all the oil has time to have dripped off the interior walls of the block----Thats what u are getting---oil that is picked up from the interior as u pull up the stick. Pull it out, wipe it totally clean, slowly reinstall it,pull it out and generally read from the side of the stick that is NOT marked

dude... just catch the oil that comes out after your oil change, and measure it.

then do an oil change.

that is the most accurate way to get a reading on oil consumption. I never bother with the dip stick

They gotta sit for a half hour to get a good readin, that's all. All VQs do that.
