Rattling Noise Inside Trunk Hatch!!?!?

I have the same rattle (the only one in the entire car). Since the hatch lid itself sits almost entirely on top of weather stripping which acts as a cushion, it can't be the hatch metal itself. Has to be the trim piece. If it is the trum, inserting a few tiny tightly folded pieces of paper (no wider than the nail on your pinky) between the trim and the hatch should provide enough cushion to stop it. I am going to give it a go this weekend and see what happens.

I notice this noise as well...especially on uneven pavement. My car is not lowered nor does it have an aftermarket exhaust. Still can't figure out where the heck the noise is coming from. Can it be the rear strut bar?
I'm going to let WCN take a peek at it. Will let you guys know the results.

If that's what it is I'll then try adding loctite to the threads.
And if those don't work then I'll push it off a cliff.

Well that didn't work. SO I removed the plastic hatch cover and drove around for a few minutes and didn't hear anything, so I'll leave that off for a while and see how that goes.
NICE CAR!!!!

UPDATE:
Just letting you guys know, I did end up going through a lawyer for the lemon law. Although Nissan wont buy the Z back, they are gonna give me an alright settlement, close to $3,000. It'll do I guess...

WOW where the Hell is my 3 grand haha.
I removed the plastic hatch cover alltogether about a week ago and I haven't heard the annoying rattle. Only when I hit a large bump do I hear any type of noise from the hatch and it's not very often. I still say it sounds like the latch.
So now I'm thinking MAYBE it's the plastic hatch cover and not metal or possibly the metal push clips on the cover. Sometimes the noise sounds metalic and sometimes it almost sounds like plastic.
If the plastic is cold it could sound more like metal and when warm sound more like plastic?? Dunno. So I'm going to use silicon on those pink plastic push tabs to eliminate them form flopping around and run sticky soft foam tape (not double side tape) along all the plastoc hatch covers edges and insulate the metal push tabs and see WTF that does.
I'm not ready to give up yet but would still like my 3 grand

Ok. I had the same noise. I searched for it. Mine only came in to play at speeds greater then 50 mph.
Well two weeks ago I had the Z in a rack.I found the FLOOR SIDE FAIRING on the drivers was missing one of the two nuts.
See attached
Maybe this my help someone

I bought a small vacuum the other day and it was a tight fit, pushing against both the floor on the bottom and the hatch on top. Not a single sound or vibration on the way home. I checked it out and the box wasn't touching any of the sides or panels, just the floor and the hatch. I have some sound deadening I will try and get back to this thread and let you know how it goes.
Anyone else have this problem with the trunk rattling? It sucks!
