Z's windows mulfunctions, I need lots of support to ask nissan for a recall!!
My 1st year 2003 Z had window problems, it would go down half way after I close the window at first, then it just stopped working on both sides. I thought the problems were caused by the modification I made(electrical problems) at first. My car has 80,000 miles on it now and out of warranty, so I had to spend $250 each side plus labor. 2 of my friends has exactly same problems but their care were still under warranty. I think this is a huge factory defect which totally deserved a recall. But I need a lot of people to back me up and sigh a petition( the more angry people like me, the better), I can inform consumer report/Nissan USA corporate office, then force them to recall the rotors for the windows. I love my Z and I plan to keep it for a long time. Back me up Z owners.
This is my first message and I will hook you guys(girls ) up with my Z picture when I get a chance. I'm still working on my car, a lot more stuff can be done, you know what I'm saying... |
Mine does the same thing.

I have a 2003 Touring model and I have the same problem. My drivers side window motor failed, again. :icon43:

both side on my 03 were replaced under warranty....the left side within the first twenty months of ownership and the right side a couple of months before warranty ran out...yike....one owner vehicle with less than 30k miles.

Here's a link to the thead with a DIY repair for the window motors. Replacing them with motors from Autozone seems to be the best bet since the ones from Autozone come with a lifetime warranty. You still have to do the labor yourself though.
https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/142013-window-motor-repair-replace-motor-brushes.html Look at how many people respond to the thread having the same problem. I agree with the OP, there should have been a recall. However, recalls only seem to be done when there's a risk of accident involved and its cheaper to fix the issue then to settle millions of court cases. Signing a petition may not help, but its worth a shot though. |
Recalls are only done when the direct safety of an individual is the main concern. Otherwise, the manufacturer can issue a TSB to the dealerships, but it will only be fixed if the car is still under warranty.
Better luck next time. |
You want a recall. Like the car is going to catch on fire, and you wont be able to climb through the window.

I'm new to the forum. I drive an 03 350z I had my drivers side window repaired under warrenty, after my warrenty was up my passenger side window started acting up. Nissan quoted me nearly $600 to repair it.

Just replaced mine the 4th time @ 70K miles

i love the recall screamers. how come when anything comes up with a car and it is no longer under warranty it should have been a recall? NHTS or something like that is responsible for safety recalls. Nissan in the past has issued recalls on problem child vehicles, but not for some window motors. Nissan is known for window motor problems. Maximas, Z's....all had window motor problems. But don't most manufactuer have there kinks with certain cars? Yeah, most of them do. Just like the 3.0 Maximas were notorious for Coils going bad, no recall their either. How about a Chrysler transmission....wow there is a big one! Or a Jeep Liberty window motor....yet another huge problem. Anyway the list goes on.
You now have 80,000 miles on your 5yr old car. At what point do you feel you should start accepting responsibility for your vehicle? How about Nissan just start warranty EVERYTHING bumper to bumper for say.....150K miles????? That would nice. |

If Nissan manufactured defective engines that will likely go bad due to bad design, wouldn't you want them to do something about it? Or are you going to take responsibility for something that will break three or four times while you own the car. |
Nissan actually did have some bad 2.5's on the altimas a couple years back. They had defective pre-cats that would come apart and destroy rings. Yeah, that was recalled.
