APP Sensor - P2122 & P2138 - CEL
Does anybody know anything about this part, where it is located, experience dealing with it, know why it may have went bad?
Car drove fine last night, started it up today and the check engine light was on. Did the visual check everything, couldn't find anything so I started to drive to AutoZone but I could not accelerate at all. The car could barely move out of its own way. Getting to 40mph took forever. So I am trying to get to the nearest AutoZone and after a stop light I can all of a sudden hit the gas and drive normally. Get to AZ and they tell me the following: P2122 - APP Sensor 1 Low Input Probable Causes: 1 - Failed APP Sensor 1 2 - Open or short circuit condition 3 - Poor electrical connection ---------------------------- P2138 - APP Sensor Performance Condition Fault Probable Causes: 1 - Failed APP Sensor 2 - Open or short circuit condition 3 - Poor electrical connection I drive a 2006 Z. I am going to check it out tomorrow and try to find the part, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |
If Im not mistaken thats a TPS Code
Throttle Position sensor Input /output circuitry |
1 Attachment(s)
P2122 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor
P2128 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 Because the Z is drive-by-wire, the gas pedal is connected to position sensors, not a cable to the throttle plate. Diagram to locate the sensor: |
Thanks man...I would have been looking under the hood the whole time.
Any clue why I would get 2 codes for the same part? Or why this would fail? The only thing that sticks out to me is that: 1) it got pretty cold last night (10-20 degrees idk) 2) when i shut the car off the night it worked good I had to turn the key to accessories to get the windows to go up and accidentally went too far for a split second, like i was turning it on. I dont know if this would eff it up but all I know is next day it wasnt running right. Also, is there wires connected to this that are running under the hood, that I should check also? |
Two code for two sensors. Check your PM box.
|
That must be a rheostat type sensor that contols current flow
The two codes are different probs with the sensor...2122 is D switch for Low Output and 2138 is Correlation between B/C circuits Unplug it and clean/lube with Dielectric Grease first--- |
thanks a ton. you guys have been uber helpful.
never would have thought to look under the dash for a sensor... i woulda been pulling my hair out tomorrow looking for this thing. |
brought it to nissan and they checked everything out and couldn't find anything wrong with the sensor. must have been some random thing hopefully.
cars been driving fine since and they said that the code was prolly on its way out because i had driven 86 miles since the code and everything is working fine now. |
actually if i remember right, i heard that you are not supposed to turn the key on and off real fast.
i remember reading in the service manual that the throttle body and APP hone themselves or something right when ur turn the car on or off. if you listen carefully you can hear them moving when u first turn the car on. if you ever disconnect your throttle body from the harness, you have to go through a process to rehone the two. sounds like you may have cut off the power to the two sensors while you were rolling up the windows. just a stab in the dark though |
Did you get this fixed??? I just this this code today.

i brought it to the dealer after like 88 miles (they could tell me how long after the code popped that i kept driving)...i think after a certain amount of miles (100, cuz the guy said i was getting close) the light ends up going out if the problem doesn't exist anymore they checked everything out...the sensor, the grounds nothing came back faulty so it must have just been a freak thing. it was driving fine since...its off the road now for the winter though |
Mine keeps doing it but only a WOT around 3K anything after that and the car is fine. If I drive it like a normal person the car is fine, its only when I go WOT under 3K and boost starts to build??? Any one please chime in??

I just threw this code. Do I just need to replace the sensors?

Mine ended up being a strange glitch for a half hour and was checked by the dealers like I mentioned and they couldn't find anything. Has been driving fine ever since. Does your car run weird? If not, try clearing the computer and see if it comes back or keep driving it for a little and see if it will clear itself. The part is underneath the dash, above the pedals somewhere... should be a diagram here... you'll see. |

Maybe, maybe not.

Ok, I cleared the ECU. Things were going great for a couple of minutes, and the code came back up and the throttle went back to being unresponsive. WTF?!
|
I'm having the same problem. I'm throwing all kinds of codes dealing with the APP and TPS sensors. I've searched this problem on the site, and so far it seems to be somewhat of a common problem but all with different solutions(if they find one). This is definitely an annoying issue, especially when the throttle dies rolling through an intersection.....FML

But the problem solved after I turn off and turn on the car, sometime have to turn off many time and turn on many times then the car runs again, it only happens once after a month or two. when i looked under the dash all the wires are looking good can't see anything wrong. damn it |
My car is still doing this! Any other ideas? I haven't tried cleaning the sensor, but I don't know why that would cause it.
