possible to estimate the cost of this?

First accident last night. I lost control of the car going around the corner, spun out and went into some bushes.

the pics show the damage. I have to decide now to go through insurance and take a hit on my rate going up, or just paying this out of pocket.

Basically the left front tire doesn't turn properly (doesn't turn equally with the right tire) the front left fender and the left side skirt (I hope I have labeled those correctly). Here are some pics.

WOW, Those must have been some hard bushes!! I hope your Z gets all better soon.

around 3,000? just throwing it out there. you would probably need a new side skirt cause it looks like a piece is missing. Door and fender need to be bumped out, realigned, and painted if possible otherwise they will just replace it if need be. As for the wheels not turning equally i would look under the car and see if anything looks bent or damaged. Sometimes when you spin your car out of control you throw the alignment way out of proportion. I would bring it to a body shop and see if they will give you a free estimate.

i would claim it.. going to cost a pretty penny.

quakerroatmeal 08-24-2008 12:40 PM

I'd claim it also. And is it just the picture, or you need new front tire (the front driver at least?). That is some seriously bushes you hit it seems, did you hit a curb or anything?

fatinma 08-24-2008 12:46 PM

yeah, only bushes, but they are short and stocky. I imagine the base of the bushes were a few inches thick at the roots.

The front left tire is a bit messed up as far as being scrapped and dented (wheel), but it hasn't lost any air at all.

Looks like you should report this to the insurance company, too much damage $$$$ & you will surely get higher insurance rates. Damn tough bushes in your part of the country.

Upwards of $3000-$5000.

The body shop will want to repaint the entire side, besides replacing the panels, to prevent mismatching paint.

Replace the fender. Put alittle time into the door and buy a used side skirt..

Paint the lot of it....

I would figure if I did it at my place that would be around $1000cdn.

If it was me I would check the classifieds here and pick up some differnent skirts for it.

Oh yeah figure around $100 to get the wheel looikng right again.

Buy used parts and this is a cheap and quicky.. Otherwise figure a tad more.

Hell I would do it the garage to save the time of letting my guys know I did that in the first place!!!!!

oh yeah, tough bushes up in New England. Sort of like our women. Short and stocky :)

Well, I asked the insurance agent what this will do to my rates and they will only go up for 3 years, at a rate of only about $300.00 additional a year. After 3 years, my points will drop down to zero, which is what I have had for close to a decade now. $300/ for 3 years and the deductible is still MUCH less than going out of pocket.

Now what I have to do is find an auto body that will fix the car up completely and let this be a HARD lesson learned on rear wheel drive power and maintaining control.

New fender.
New door.
New rocker panel.
New wheel.
Paint.
Front suspension fix?
$4,500.

pretty close actually! initial estimate was put at $3900. Now that the car is at the body shop, it could go up if they find more damage than initially thought.

As soon as they say it may go up, indefinately it will. Good luck!

Luckily my insurance will cover the cost (minus deductible) no matter how much the price goes up, if any. At this point I am just glad that I was not injured, and that the car will be fixed. Time for me to keep it at, or below the speed ALWAYS.
