$1,350 in repair ?thoughts?
 

Ok so i bought some
RAYS RO_JA R2-5
19"x8.5
19"x10.5
and have been on my car for about 2 weeks.
i had to install extended studs and a 5mm spacer on my 08. 9,000 miles

i started having noise problems when driving 30-70mp. and the rear started walking hard on me (swayed back-in-forth) when in 6th at 70mph - downshifting to 4th (to pass) and gunning it.
so i took it to the stealership for repairs and they first came back with right rear hub needs to be replaced ($650)...after that the wheel would wobble for some reason ??? and they didnt know why. they came back with $1350 to replace both hubs and turn a rotor and i have to go out and buy new Extended Lugs and they say it my rims causeed the problem. WTF! why would rays (the best manufacture of wheels) mess my rear end up?
o ya all parts were put on at my shop (ProTechnik) all professional work done so that can't be the problem.
(and if you asking why isn't it at my shop well they told me it was cover under warranty so duh i had to try right?!? but its not of course)

anybody have problems like this with there new wheels?
to me it doesn't seem that it would be the rims..i dont hear anybody else talk about this

They could have a point if it was the front wheels, but not the back. That's ridic.

i dont really believe them anymore.
first it's "sure it under warrenty"
then it "O ya i forgot" ($650)
nows its "but now we have more" ($1350)

and they still dont really know why it happened?!?!?!?!?

This thing is brand new - those hubs should not have failed that fast no matter what you hung on them.

i have a new 08 with rims that weigh 27lbs. and im the one with the problems?!?

Never mentioned how many miles are on your car.

Big wheels and spacers is a baller set up. Its a simple fact that this places additional stress on the suspension. Its cost to be cool.

I don't think it's the wheels. They won't cover it under warranty because you de-badged the rear. You threw the entire weight distribution off. That's why it's f*cked up.

I think you need to raise a red flag and get them to cough up some cash.

You didn't really go into detail, but it almost sounds like the installation of the extended lugs somehow caused a problem. It's the only thing out of what you listed that I can even imagine being a culprit... and even that is far-fetched.

My opinion- get it back from the dealer and take it to someone else. Be up front regarding the modifications to the wheel hub/assembly so that they have a head's up what might be wrong.

Sounds like you'll be paying out of pocket on this one.

put back the stock wheels and the rest of the setup and take it to a different dealership

Changing out the rear wheels studs takes a bit of time due to having to unbolt some suspension arms to get to the 4 bolts that hold the hub in place. The bearings back there are huge, and frankly you would have to SLAM SIDEWAYS into a wall to bust them. Even then, it would only make noise that would travel into the cabin due to "dented" internal bearings.

Now the key thing I'm saying is that suspension does have to be unbolted... so it could have been something lose that would definitely allow extra wide rims to wobble. Other things to account for is if the wheels were balanced or not. Something very important which you did not mention is using hubcentric spacers to ENSURE that the wheels will bolt down CENTERED. I use to have this vibration that would NEVER GO AWAY till i pinned it down to needing hubcentric spacers. Many might argue but fact is , lug centric is not valid when using spacers and after market wheels. Hubcentric spacers and adapters are required, which 9 outta 10 wheel shops won't tell you.

Also, new extended studs do stretch, so maybe what you felt were loose wheels?...

dude sterling mccall is whack! trust me talk to the manager if he wont work with u i suggest taking it to mossy nissan ive dealt with them a couple of times theyre a lot better than sterling

-i understand paying to be cool. but my thing is there are tons of high offset toting people here and they dont have this problem. even a few members with the same rims! no problems that i have heard of. but that brings up a good question for them.

-as for photos i think they already fixed the hub part. so i'll pay for that and take it somewhere else. but when i looked at it before i took it in it looked fine to me

o and i dont think it was the studs because i was having the same problem before the stud install. it was smaller noises but still the same problem. it was gradulating getting worse. i admit the stud install may have pushed the bearings over the edge but as for correct installiation...all my work is done at ProTechnik by me or one of our master techs.

ok rear passenger hud replaced and i ordered new studs just in case
