Car won't accelerate without studdering violently
 

Hey guys, need some people to bounce ideas off of. Weird thing happened today while driving on the freeway I was in 6th and I was coasting and I went to accelerate and the car studdered for a second before it began to accelerate. When I say studdered, it sounded like how the car sounds when you hit the rev limiter in neutral, except I was at about 3K. So it didnt' do it for about 5 minutes so I just let it go. I get to about 3 stop lights before my place and I come to a stop. I go from first and start to slip the clutch and it reved to about 1500rpm and started studdering for a second, accelerated another couple hundred RPM and did it again until I got around 3-4K and it would drive fine as long as i didn't depress the pedal any more than I had it. It did it at every light I came to without fail, however when I reved it in neutral or tried to hold an RPM with no load it wouldnt do it. No CEL and it's not in limp mode. Any ideas? I'd like to hear some of your ideas before I give you my theories just to get an unbiased opinion. Thanks.

Edit: I've tried resetting ecu by disconnecting the battery and the pedal sequence. It drove fine to work which is about a 15 minute drive and got to the parking lot at work and it started doing it again. Seems like it only does it when it's hot but I can't say that for sure yet because the ecu reset may have affected it somehow

Try to clean out the intake, MAF and the intake manifold using MAF cleaner and manifold degreaser?

Like he said, clean out the maf/throttle body. DId wonders for me. If that doesnt work you may have something more serious, check for codes even if you dont have engine light. Ive said it a lot but some codes dont trigger the light.

Cool I'll try that today, I've reconfirmed that it only does it when it's hot. I guess my drive to work and back is just long enough for it to start to studder right before I get to work or in the apartments. It's gotta be something in the sensor department...maybe O2 sensors or intake temp sensor maybe, may even be throttle position sensor idk...definately feels like its electrical and nothing mechanical because the studder is very precise and controlled like hitting the rev limiter only at a lower RPM

go to autozone and have your codes read so u can get that out the way. After that clean the maf/throttle body like i said

At about 17 seconds if you listen to his car as he takes off it will studder and again a couple times as he shifts later down the road

Car hasnt studdered since my last experience but I can't drive it for 20 minutes without it misfiring pretty bad on acceleration, and you can tell its pulling timing or something because it will be accelerating smoothly and all of a sudden I'll lose power.

I can't believe no one has any experience with this..I think my car just hates new mexico because none of this happened till I moved here

Does your SLIP lite flash when this happens?

Have you check your wiring?? I had another car that did that, ended up being a cracked plug. Check your spark plugs and wires. Worked wonders for me!

No slip light and no CEL

im gonna swap out coilpacks and check the plugs with a buddy of mine and see if theres any codes that haven't triggered the cels

Haven't had any time to do the swaps yet but I have another symptom to add to the mess

This morning it was pretty cool out about 55 degrees. I was accelerating normally to get onto the interstate and I noticed when I would depress the clutch the engine would rev about 500 RPM (no my foot wasnt pressing on the gas) :dunno:

I've had the same exact thing happen to me about twice. After shutting down the engine for a few min and starting back up seemed to fix the problem. Which i also suspected was some kind of electrical issue. How exactly do i "Try to clean out the intake, MAF and the intake manifold using MAF cleaner and manifold degreaser? I wpould like to do that anyway. do i have to remove the throttle body to clean these?

Sounds like we have the same problem. I took it to the dealer today and they didn't find any codes, or any history of codes. My only idea was that it was related to the crank position sensor recall as I had a previous car do similar things, and that's what the problem was. However, they said that my VIN wasn't included in the recall and basically told me to bring it back when it happens again.

Let me know if you come up with anything.

Friend of mine had a problem like this on the Morano. One of her intake tubes was loose.

i know this is a long shot... what grade gasoline are you using?

Sounds like the 'ol banana in the tailpipe trick. Do you have bananas in your tailpipe?

Any update on this. My car is doing the same thing. Driving to work this morning (40 minute drive) in 6th gear i went to accelerate to get over and it started stuttering. I put it into 5th and immediately it bogged down and i had no acceleration. Got to work and let it sit for about an hour, took it back out and no problems. This is the 2nd time since i bought the car 2 weeks ago. Seems to only be on long drives. Im going in to the shop this afternoon to see whats up. Ill post what I come up with then.
