Can't get rid of P0037 code

Car is currently STOCK as I need to smog it. It did have plenum, cat-back and flash. Code came on before I took everything off to take it smogged.

Cleared the code initially but it came back so I replaced the sensor. No dice. Search didn't help find any answer :)

What is the code? That information would probably be helpful.

Harness or connectors (The heated oxygen sensor 2 circuit is open or shorted.) Rear oxygen sensor (Bank 1) may be faulty.

It's a P0037 in the subject.

Doesn't the 350 have about four O2 sensors?

JAM3Z Nov 14, 2009 07:56 PM

Yes.

Yes. 2 pre-catalytic converter and 2 post-catalytic converter.

tnk210 Nov 14, 2009 08:55 PM

Yea, its the passenger rear sensor. I've seen other people on the board have the same problem, but no one posted resolution to the code coming back on after replacing the sensor.

tnk210 Nov 17, 2009 08:54 AM

Bump.

DSLisFREE Nov 17, 2009 10:53 AM

nvm

tnk210 Nov 20, 2009 03:17 PM

Anyone? Seems like it's something besides the actual sensor. Drove to work this morning fine, but when I left to go home code came back on after about four minutes.

tnk210 Nov 20, 2009 05:50 PM

P0605 popped up as well which is ECU. Totally confused now.

Seems like the ECU might be the problem.

Tomek350Z Nov 20, 2009 10:46 PM

check voltage at each O2 to see which one it is

tnk210 Nov 21, 2009 09:12 AM

I know what o2 sensor is the problem already. I'm not an electrical guy though, so what am I checking for on the voltage?

Quick update. Car was taken into the dealer and given a once over by a master tech. He didn't see anything wrong and cleared the code for me. It drove home fine and than sat until this past Saturday. Code popped up again so it's got to go back in.

Could this be spark plug related at all? (Just curious :) )

Unlikely. You're more likely to see Random Misfire codes with spark plug related issues (P0300). Ask me how I know...:icon14:

Here's why - leaking spark plug hole seals on the VC's, only the oil soaked plugs looked like that, all on the same bank. Dealer says oh no, the oil could not have caused that. Yes, spark plugs work best when submerged completely in oil, of course.

Good luck with the O2 sensor codes. I didn't see how old or mileage on your car, it is remotely possible the sensor is bad, but I'd also check ground wires throughly including the basic chassis grounds. Many ECU/ECM gremlins come with bad grounding of various circuits.

tnk210 Dec 10, 2009 06:13 AM

It's an '03 with 78k. The tech checked voltage, everything was good. Really suprised by this, beyond the stereo which has been in the car since '06 I haven't done anything with wiring.

Snowboarder714 Dec 13, 2009 02:41 AM

Any updates on this?
I just started having the same problem this week. A shop said it was my bank 1, sensor 2 o2 sensor and changed it. (sensor after the passenger cat)
The light came back on a little later.
Could it possibly be the MAF sensor?
or a bad CAT?

tnk210 Dec 14, 2009 04:42 PM

No clue right now. I'm avoiding taking it in right now for $$ reasons. This weekend I'm going to dive into it and see if I can figure anything out. Otherwise its going to sit until January and go to the dealer then. Can't really drive it because my tags are expired. Let me know if you figure anything out.

I don't know why it would be the MAF, seeming as this is an after cat sensor and is simply there for emissions purposes. It doesn't really effect how the car drives.

dkmesa350z Dec 20, 2009 02:12 PM

I am having the same problem with code P0037. I have cleared it a few times and each time it comes back within the day.

Anyone found a solution?

Eventually...this thread will be. But nothing right now :(
