TMPS quirk

I was driving down the highway the other day in my 2008 350Z. After driving for about an hour, the TPMS started flashing for a minute and then turned solid. I pulled over and checked the tire pressure and they were all around 35 PSI. According to the manual, the blinking light indicates a TPMS malfunction.

After stopping and restarting the car, the TPMS went out. On the way home, it did the same thing again. It hasn't done it since, but I haven't driven for more than about 20 minutes at a time.

My question is, if I take this to the dealer, are they going to be able to do anything about it, what with it being so sporadic? Or would I be wasting my time? I've got about 2000 miles of warranty left.

^^ Since you are almost out of warranty, you need to address your TPMS problem immediately.

Do this:

Take the car to your dealer and have an oil change. Tell the dealer you are experiencing an intermittent problem with TPMS. Make sure the service guy writes this on your service order (something like “customer reports TPMS problem”).

If the problem is intermittent, the dealer probably won’t see it and do nothing, but you have documentation of the problem when the car was still under warranty. If and when the problem recurs, you have some basis for a warranty claim. As of 2007, TPMS is a required safety feature, and that will strengthen your case if you continue experiencing TPMS problems.

It may not be intermittant, it may be that he doesn't drive it continuously long enough and often enough for it to happen and trigger the warning. It may show up under disgnostics as a unit not transmitting. If not, as Spike points out, by getting it on record it may help your case later.

mine would do it if i would do any driving longer than about 40 minutes. it would come on and stay on until i cut the car off, i never bothered getting it fixed and they still work fine. its done that since i bought the car 2 years ago

Having a warning come on after 30-40 minutes of driving is the indication that it's not seeing one or more of the sensors.

It means one, if not more, of your sensors is not working- this just happened to me but unfortunately I'm out of my warranty now. Do as mentioned above ASAP (i.e. trip to dealer)

I did as suggested this morning, since I was due for an oil change, anyway. They didn't find a problem. But at least it's on record.

Thanks, guys.

I have been having this issue since I purchased my 2003 performance trim. All sensors will register normally, then after 20-30 minutes of driving the light will come on (with no sound). When I go to view the pressures, all are visible except one. If I turned the car off and back on, it will work again for another 20-30 minutes. Is this a sign that the one sensor is bad, or the receiver is bad?

Weird experience with TPMS

Hello everybody. Last fall i purchased a set of 04 wheels with snow tires, with tpms. I put them on the car and of course the light came on. About 2 weeks later I was stopped somewhere and automatically the car went into learning mode and linked to my snow tires. Last week I put my stock wheels back in and the light is back on and it is driving me crazy because I didnt care if my snow tires caused the light since they will only be on 3 months a year but now my stock wheels have the light on.

I read the diy and I really dont want to cut anything or take anything apart on my 08. I guess either I wait to see if the car automatically registers or go to the stealership.

Anybody else experience this?

I read this thread. From what I understand I have to cut things to manually reset on my 2008. I was just wondering if this has happened to anybody else.

Bump tried to reset it, got the light blinking but just went back to solid and never beeped. What a PITA im scared of the stealership seeing my wheel spacers and wanting to void some warranties (bad experience with warranty issues with honda)

TPMS quirk - this may sound crazy, but .....

I've had the same flashing for 60 seconds, then solid TPMS light on both my 2008 Xterra and my 2008 350z .... I finally figured out that it happens when I am using a bluetooth headset on my Blackberry and an email is received while I'm on the call ... used to have the BB stuck to the dash with Velcro ....

I conducted a series of tests and could cause the TPMS malfunction indication at will .....

The fix ??? ... changing to a iPhone !!!

Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but there is a whole lot of EMF emitted from these devices and it must have been messing with the TPMS signals .....

Mine's acting up too, but I think it's cuz my TPMS are old; though you may be right about the Bluetooth cuz I do have bluetooth sync to my aftermarket headunit. However it is weird because sometimes it will work again and the light goes away. But after a few days it comes back on. Solution? Maybe just buy all new TPMS sensors if the OCD is driving me more crazy. -_-
