trans replaced, wouldn't shift right after, instructions to adjust
I had my transmission replaced last Friday due to the grinding issue. When I picked up the car, all the gears shifted fine except 5th and 6th. It was really had to get into them.
I took it back and had the tech look at it. He thought it may be a bad transmission, or that it just needed to be "broken in". Luckily I didn't buy this. I did some searching on the internet to see if there was a bracket or something that needed to be adjusted. Sure enough there was. There is a bracked under the actual stick that prevents the car from shifting into reverse until the stick is pressed down. If not adjusted right, the car won't go into 5th or 6th without the stick being pressed down. I adjusted the bracket, and now all the gears feel great. I hope the drive home with the bad adjustment didn't cause any damage. I found a PDF file one the internet that has instructions on how to install a short shifter. I tried to attach it, but it is too big. Here is the link: http://www.rogueengineering.com/pdf/...er_install.pdf I did it without removing the top of the stick. When I tried to remove it, it turned a lot and seemed more like I was going to break something that be successful at unscrewing it. |
If you let the service manager know how poorly trained the mechanic is then maybe (very maybe) the next one he works on will be done right. I know I would never have thought to do what you did. Maybe you could train their mechanics on the weekend?

Thanks I will give it a try, my 5th gear sometimes is hard to get into after tranny replacement

Originally posted by westpak Read the PDF file, towards the last steps, it is pretty simple. Is the bracket under the car? |

I fixed stiff 5th & 6th. It works.
Now my 5th & 6th is smooth. Thanks walesinc |
I got my transmission replaced at Superior Nissan in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. Overall I have had really good experiences with them. Front tires, alignment, grease streaks and finally the trans raplacement without too much hassles. The service advisor is really helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make sure things are right.
Glad this helped other people too. I am going to let the dealer know about it. If it is happening to other people too, maybe it isn't in the instructions they use to replace the trans or something so they overlook it. |
Great write up fixed my 5th and 6

^ Now this is the kind of thread bump I like to see.
