Power Steering Fluid

Hi all.

I understand that you can use ATF for the power steering, as that is what the cap states. But does it matter which dexron atf you use? Would dexron vi be safe to use? which power steering fluid would you recommend? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

dexron III/ mercon, or equivalent which mean VI will be fine

What year vehicle do you have?

2003-2006 require DexIII

I've used Mobil1 in the past but it seems their newer formulas are no longer Dexron certified.

Amsoil ATF synetic

Hey,I use Amsoil syn ATF for
my power steering fluid.Well,if you are at a standstill and turn your steer wheel from side to side while the car is on with the
stock fluid I hear the pump kind
of makes a whine noise. When I changed over to Amsoil syn ATF the noise went away and the steering felt better. Also this fluid
has one of the lowest pour temp as well as one of the highest temp point. The guys on the oil
rigs up here use it on all hydraulics for a reason.

It's a 2007.

since dexron III is no longer made, VI has taken its place. they are both hydraulic fluid, VI has more additives for smoother shifts, better temp control, longevity, etc.. it is just an improved formula and will be fine.

Anyone try Motul power steering fluid?

sanbaifo 04-09-2012 12:45 PM

Do you have to remove all of the current fluid before you add the Amsoil ATF?
Or can you just remove what is in the reseriour and fill it?

zheiland 04-12-2012 11:57 AM

I would drain all the existing fluid.

Old thread bump, but just to make sure since i'll be replacing my PS fluid soon on my 05, any of these should be fine correct?

I use Redline synthetic on all 3 of my VQ cars, specially on the 350z where I heat up the fluid form autocrossing.
