Convertible Top Electrical Operation Breakdown

I am by no means a convertible expert but in my search for answers for mysterious convertible problems I've found some info that might help others going through the same or similar dilemma.

For this to make sense you'll have to familiarize yourself with the technical documents & the short video I'll be putting up in a few minutes. As best as I can tell so far, my problem is between Operation 7 & 8. Exactly whats broken & needs to be replaced is where I'll need your help.

Things to rule out right away are any cloth top problems. I replaced the top about a year ago & it has no issues. All moving parts that should be greased have been greased. The 5th Bow motor (rear window) & both L&R Roof Actuator motors have been rebuilt with new brushes & work fast & strong. The Storage Lid actuator was not rebuilt but works fine.

What you don't see in the video is that while holding the Open button, the 5th Bow motor continues to "try" & the operation between 7 & 8 never quite makes the transition. The next operation that should happen is the Roof Actuators should start opening but it does not try. The motors have been tested & they do work. (not seen, in other positions the motors will move the roof with no problem) This leads me to believe that the problem might be the 5th Bow Full Open Detection Switch. If this switch is bad then it seems to me that the signal to stop the 5th Bow motor & start the roof actuators isn't happening. What do you think?

OK, a lot of you have looked at this thread but nobody has replied. I realize I'm not asking a simple question. My own local automotive electrical shop expert is at a loss for where to start.

What would you check & how would you check it?

Does anyone have an exploded diagram with part numbers for the convertible top? Something I can find the location of the electrical parts to test & replace them. I can not find the 5th bow full open detection switch using the picture on RF-11 section C.

Anything?

Really, seriously, not even one reply?!

Come on guys, somebody out there has to have worked on convertible top problems before & have something to say.

you seem to have a different problem than most with your top. but it does seem like a bad sensor and thats why it isnt working. i got the full service manual for nissan if you need it i think i can email to you or post it up if that will help?

In your follow up video, it is fixed. What did you do?

I have reviewed your posting of 2011 which includes pages 1 through 25. Would you happen to have pages 26 through 131 of the top service and repair manual? I have a 2003 350 Z convertible with an inoperative top that I need electrical diagrams and diagnostics for.

Thank you,

Jesse

Another time, another place but would appreciate your help if you're able.

I have a 2003 350 Z with an inoperative top. I need diagnostics, troubleshooting guide and schematics of top operation.

Thank you,
Jesse
