Anyone have this problem? Car won't start ((maybe related to clutch))

07 350z base - Manual. 75k miles.

I started noticing this problem maybe starting a month ago. This happens pretty often now on initial startup. If I start it, turn off engine, and try again usually works.

PROBLEM: I press clutch, turn key, just clicks and doesn't turn over. I try it again, sometimes it turns and starts, or sometimes it just clicks again and doesn't turn over. After 2 or 3 times, usually starts up all the times. But it's starting to do it on every first attempt when i get in the car lately. I'm afraid one day it just won't start. :(

Anyways. This can be number of things i'm sure, starting with starter?

But a friend mentioned to me there's some kind of sensor behind the clutch that can be faulty? Is this true or anyone know about this issue? Anyone experience similar problems?

What kind of diagnostic checks are available for this type of issues if i take it to a shop to check it?

Thanks!!!!! and please help!!!!!

bad battery connection

Your issue sounds similar to what happened to me. Your friend is probably talking about the clutch safety switch. You may want to try this first, then if that doesn't work you can order them for somewhere around $20.

Not the clutch safety switch. The battery won't engage at all if the clutch switch is bad.

I'd bet on it being a poor battery connection, or a poor connection at the starter, or a bad ground between the engine and chassis.

Well way to crush my hopes! All my gauges come on and read normal, but I'm still waiting on the switch. I figured it was a dirty contact or something. Every time I manually depressed the switch the car starts no problem. I'm the farthest thing from a mechanic so OP listen to Vivid. I'm actually gonna pull up a chair next to you and keep my mouth shut:icon30:

sounds like a bad starter or poor connection to the starter.

Replaced my switch and all is normal again:dunno:. OP I hope it ends up being as easy a fix for you as it was for me!
