Chirping/squeaking sound coming from the trunk/rear

Hey guys,

I have a constant chirping/squeaking noise coming from the rear of the car. It only happens when I go over bumps/pot holes/bumpy roads. Its loud enough where I can hear it with the music on. I currently have true style coilovers on the car, but I could also hear it when I had the stock suspension with lowering springs on the car as well. What could be the reason? Thanks

mine does the same sh1t.. pretty annoying and makes me think somethings broke. theres a thread on here somewhere where a guy put a gasket in between the shock and the actual fender/quarter panel or whatever and it made the squeaking go away.

I'm quite surprised. LOL. My car makes the same noise.

Happened only when I switched to KW V2.

I began troubleshooting this. I thought it was the "hatch pop spring" so I removed the passenger side. That wasn't it.

I ceased to trouble shoot this, ensuring I have my music loud enough while going over bumps :(

The area where the rear shocks mate to the body amplifies the noise. You should be fine

While I'm glad I'm not the only one, it does get annoying on long drives. I don't like listening to my music very loud so it makes the noise even worse on my ears. Why would it make this sound even on stock suspension?? I thought it was due to my Chinese coils but apparently it happened for kw v2 coils too.....crap

Do any of you guys with the noise have the spare tire or tools in the trunk??

We all have this, especially in the cold. It could be the strut fork bolt thing and adding a washer or spacer of some sort. I may have a mechanic in NJ who works on Z a lot. Anyone else live in the area? We can maybe set up a group rate for the fix.

If any of you try the fix, and it works, PLEASE remember to POST the results in the related threads. Especially if you find the size/type of spacer we need.

Ok I really need a fix for this, its so annoying. Its a squeaking/chirping sound that goes off on every bump or imperfection on the road. If I take it to a mechanic or alignment shop, or suspension shop, will they know what's wrong and be able to fix it??

So, Stevehl, you actually have aftermarket shocks and springs and it still makes the sound? If so, did you use the same bolt from the stock setup that goes through the shock/strut fork?

User 42426 02-02-2013 07:17 PM

i read some other threads and they said it might be due to the plastic piece on the top of the hatch that came loose. Mine is actually loose but I can't get it to snap back in. Im going to try and put some 3m tape there and see if that does it.

so i got around to putting the car on some jack stands finally. pulled the rear wheels off, and sprayed all the rubber bushings and the spot were the rear shock connects to the body with white lithium grease and the sound is gone. hopefully for good. hope this helps some one out.

^Nice. THanks for the update!

VO... 02-18-2013 02:29 PM

OP, do you have any aftermarket camber or toe adjustment parts? The polyurethane bushings, neoprene, or whatever they're made of can begin squeaking really bad when they lose their lubrication...

had a similar issue, turned out to be last weekends "Entertainment" :kidnap:

She was pissed.....

well **** i thought the was sound was gone. got pretty cold tonight and the chirping squeaking noise is back. saw this in another thread. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13612659145322 maybe thats the problem

Dude - Why dont you just try the Lowes PVC pipe spacer around the fork bolt trick. I dont have the ability to jack my car up, but if I did like its seems you do, I would be all over that.

Fixed it today using the spacer method on the shock bolt. Its perfect now. Insane how Nissan could not figure this out but a 350z owner and member of this site did.
