Can't shift into 1st

my 350z has been fine up untill about 4am. I went outside, started it everything normal. I take off in 1st its fine. i slow down to go over speed bump so i try to go into 1st and it wouldn't go unless i came to a complete stop... I have done some research and people keep sayin this is normal a lot of cars do this. but mine didn't before, up until now. and some other people are saying it is the oil viscosity to use a 5w oil... can someone please tell em why my car is acting like this? Thanks

Have you done any recent mods or adjustments to the clutch or tranny?

Does double clutching or rev matching work?

Thread moved.

Two things:
1. Yes sir, it is pretty normal to have to come to a stop when placing back in 1st. It is possible to place back in 1st when at a crawling speed, but you're going to get resistance. You should just place it in 2nd. The Z has enough torque to not bog down.

2. The engine oil will have no bearing on your ability to shift. This will be the transmission fluid. I notice you mentioned 4am. Was it cold outside? Colder days will affect shifting...
