Clunk sound at first roll of the day

When my car sits for several hours, sometimes just during the day at work, I get in, start up, and soon as I start to take off, I get a clunk sound. It's similar to the sound of a universal joint, but it only does it at times the car sits several hours...never twice in the same drive. Sometimes it doesn't do it in the mornings, just about 2-3 times a week.

Unlike a U joint, it doesn't do it every time going from forward to reverse, at starts from redlights and such.

I'm suspecting that the brembos kinda lock onto the rotors and they have to "unstick" from them after sitting a few hours. It may be the type of brake pads on it. I think the guy I bought from put ceramic pads on the car, but I'm not sure. Oh, and this sound is coming from the front of the car.

If it sounds like it is coming from the rear it is the axle and your dealership should be able to cover the fix. There is a TSB for it.

Is the car lowered? Could be your sway bar hitting the oil pan. Mine was doing the same sound at the same times until I put on some adjustable endlinks and adjusted them. Stopped the clunking.

It's not the rear axel click. That's a high pitched click and it occurs at all times, not just first of the day.

Clunk, especially first time is probably either brake pads, end links or some other suspension part.

Ive been putting this off, just out of sheer laziness....you mean the dealers are performing the fix for free?

....cause im not too lazy to pick up the phone:thumbup:

^ Werd. Is it free? I work at a dealership and if it's free then hey.. I'm gonna have a good day at work ;D

Also would like to know if its free because I am having the same problem but it never bothered me enough to pay to have it fixed.

Try rocking the car back and forth before you get in. That'll unstick the brakes, and rule them in/or out as the cause of the noise.

I watched the video of the axle clicking and mine isn't doing that.

I will look up under the car next time I'm under it and see if the sway bar is hitting anything.

OT: Your username sounds familiar, not sure what forum it was maybe HT...but if you are that same person you have crazy awesome fab skills. Welcome nonetheless....

I have the same issue. I believe it is caused by the rear strut & accompanying bolt -- the hole is too big for the bolt, so there is a lot of 'wiggle' room.

not sure what everyone means by this clunk noise..

In response to everyone asking if it's free, I was at work and asked the service writers if it was free or not, and it's not. But I managed to print out the TSB on how to fix it if everyone would like me to upload it on here
