Heavy flywheel or Light flywheel?
 

After 83k miles of fun, my clutch has started to slip. I have gotten used to the take-up feel of the original clutch, but I'm wondering if going to a lighter flywheel would make the car more fun. This is the only Z I have ever had and it is the only clutch, so I'm looking for some advise. This forum has been very helpful so far, so any advise would be great!

I've had the lightest clutch/flywheel combo on the market--the twin disc Tilton unit that is no longer in production--and enjoyed the quick revving response it gave. But, lap times showed no appreciable gains, so the VQ needs some rotational mass to help its performance. If the flywheel isn't damaged, I'd just replace the clutch disc and call it good.

The shop I took it to showed me the flywheel and it does not look good, I guess I got it pretty hot, It has splotchy marks all over it. After poking around and getting opinions, I have decided on an ACT street light flywheel to go with the new clutch. Hopefully that will be a good compromise. Thanks for the help!

Well, I learned a few things in the past 2 days! I went with an ACT flywheel and a stock disc and pressure plate. I thought I did enough research, but ended up buying a flywheel that fits the later 350z, not my early model. Unfortunately, the vendor that gave me such a great deal, won't take it back because it was installed by the shop I took the car to:( The shop fixed me up and got me the correct flywheel, but now I have a new flywheel that has some marks on the mounting holes, but the engine never started.

Lesson for me, just let the shop that is going to install the clutch, sell me what I need!
