Broken area around the oil pressure sensor! Help!!!

so I was told my oil pressure unit was bad, well as I go to unscrew the old one out I hear a weird noise. So I stop, grab a light and look and the part of the upper oil pan that holds ghe sensor in was cracked in two spots and fell to the ground. Now oil gushing everywhere. So I immediately drained all the oil. Jd is there a way to plug that hole and not worry about the sensor? Would jb weld do the trick? Thanks in advance. I can't find anything on this on the forum.

sucks.. don't think it's a good idea to use JB welding since oil pressure an go up to 80 psi or more at wot. the best way to do it is to take it to a professional so it can get weld properly. good luck.

Thanks for the response Cali, do you of any DIY to do so? Looks so complicated. And also what if I tapped it, threated it, and stuck a screw in there? What do you think?

Calinismo350z 04-27-2013 10:36 AM

yeah you can also tapped it, your gonna struggle finding the size for it.. but if it broke, was there any piece stuck inside of the treat?? if you post some pictures I'm sure it'll be easier for people to help you.

wooooow how the heck did you broke that part.!?! the best option you have is to get it professionally welded since it's an important part of the engine. you don't wanna do just some random stuff since it gets super hot+the oil pressure and I don't think you want to spill the oil if your on a long drive, you'll messed up your engine.

weld that? Really?

Probably better off replacing the upper oil pan ( gonna suck to do) but trying to weld that in such a cramped location will be tough.

Italianjoe1 04-27-2013 02:18 PM

What were you using to take that thing off, a hammer and chisel?

I'd imagine that if it is part of the upper oil pan, the smartest thing to do is replace that upper pan section.

You can have it welded and re-tapped, but welding to oil contaminated cast aluminum is a nasty job and doing it in the tight confines of the car doesn't help, you may end up with a car that still leaks oil or has other problems.

well he's just trying to save money, that's his best option.. I'm sure there's some one put there that can weld that he's just gonna have trouble finding the right guy.. haha

Mine broke too. I was able to just thread the new sensor back in.

not my car, he can do what he wants.

Remember though, oil is life blood of the engine.

Get a new upper pan, that will not weld worth anything. It will be faster easier and cost the same with no worries

shayan89 04-27-2013 08:10 PM

Looks super incredibly hard. Any idea on how to drop the upper oil pan?and thanks for all the input guys.

shayan89 04-27-2013 08:33 PM

I went to lowes and bought a 24 nm open box wrench and as I was loosing it it cracked. No idea why

meanz 04-28-2013 09:38 AM

This happened to me as well.

Tried jb weld and its not working. I have an extra motor so I coild try to swap the upper oil pan. I would probably have to take it to a shop to do it though.

YOUR DONE!!!

lol at welding - you can not weld a CASTING GUYS!!

I have first hand experience with this with a friend....hands down...replace the upper pan...

there are MANY threads on this and ive commented on them all....chaulk it up to a learning curve, always research first....did you read the Factory Service Manual??? -- and see that this sending unit takes super low low torque...ie, it broke when you put way too much force on the wrench.....
(the fsm is free download in the maintenance section forum)

there is no real way to fix that...if whatever you try fails..out goes all your oil.......

I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tell people, if that sensor goes out, dont replace it, dont remove it, dont nothing with it...simply buy a oil filter sandwich adapter and plug a new oem unit into the sandwich port and leave the original sitting there forever...

sorry this happened..

hands down replace the upper pan!!!
