One of many broken diff studs
 

This happened most likely because of weak motor mounts, and I was actually waiting for some time off to replace them with solid ones which is only $88 from Z1. Luckily I had to come back home after I left for work right after exiting the apt complex, and when I got back in it would hardly move and shake violently. At least it didn't happen driving to work which would of been a serious disaster at 80mph.

I always run into the most unique problems. Broken cam, blown head gaskets on bank 2 with no leak inside the cooling system for a year before it finally showed up in the cooling system, and now a broken diff stud.

Not the first :) mine broke when my ES bushings failed at the strip. Sounded like a bowling ball rolling around in the back, freaked me out... Replaced it with an OEM stud and went with solid bushings, no probs since.

awww c'mon. I though I was the Almighty and Unchallenged V35 Destroyer. I have SPL bushings f/r but it still broke.

yah not even close to the first lol, go for the sound performance brace seems a bit better then the ip one. its not caused by motor mounts, its completely isolated by the driveshaft, its cause by the driveshaft loading the rear end

Ya the drive shaft has the loop in the middle of the car. Anyway I picked up a 95 Geo Prism Sedan with a 5 speed with a 1.8L motor swap. hahahahaha it rides really good for 364k miles and passes emissions. I got it from a coworker which is kind of unethical but it's just a car. I just picked up some motor mounts for it and needs 2 new axles and the oil pan resealed and it's good to go. I'll be able to do that all that in less than 3 hours. 34 miles per gallon. HA! Might get 37mpg once I get some NGK spark plugs and wires.

ita not a driveshaft loop its a carrier bearing and the driveshaft isnt a solid tube it still has U joints and it still flexs in the carrier bearing, hence motor mounts have absolutely nothing to do with snapping any stud on a rear end. only time that will have anything to do with it is on something like a vette with a torque tube.

I did solid bushings + the sound performance brace.

Mine snapped recently too. I do have the oem diff cover to an 04 touring new if u want it for cheap.

I think it was caused by the motor mounts. The SPL bushing was pushed back less than a quarter inch out of the subframe, so everything had to move back.

Did any of you have the bolts from the front diff bushings strip out of the subframe when the stud broke? I haven't checked yet since the car has to be on a lift and it has to be towed.

Apparently our archrivals are having bigger problems on $80k cars. $6k-$9k in damage. Some think it's caused by the exhaust because it has hangers coming off the diff. HA!

The R51 Pathfinder has a differential cover with 2 studs in it, which I knew about for years. And it seems as it would fit on the differential for the V35 but required a mounting point for the 2nd stud in the subframe. Anyone know if it fits? The hole that the IP brace connects to might actually align with the 2nd stud. EDIT: It doesn't align.

EDIT: It does fit. The R51 Pathfinder uses the R200 FD non-lsd with the 2 stud cover that is the same FD as a V35 FD without LSD. There is also the 4WD R230 FD that uses the same 2 stud cover.

Does anyone know the thread size for both ends of the stock stud. I found some Titanium studs.

I just got the Nismo cover and it has the same ****ing stud. You have to be a complete imbecile to roll these cars off the assembly line with 1 ****ing slim dick stud holding up a differential that's 100 lbs+ while moving at least 250 rwtq through it. Because what I like to do is replace broken parts that are not suppose to break with the same parts that broke the first time, so I can repeat the process a 3rd time.

Apparently the small hole just to the right of the rear bushing will line up with the second stud in the R51 Pathfinder cover. Best thing to do is to get the R51 cover and make that hole bigger and grab the cover from the other side of the subframe with a long bolt. Could also get a pipe to put in the subframe and weld it in place to use as a bushing for the bolt.

I found pictures of the R51 Pathfinder FD and it looks like the 2nd stud will line up. I don't think the FD will fall out again with 2 studs and 2 front bolts + solid bushings, unless the subframe rubber bushings fail and there is a solid option for that too.

The size and thread pitch for the end of the OEM stud that goes into the FD cover is M14x2.0. The bolt that I got is 4" or 100mm and it's too short it seems to reach all the way to the cover from the other side of the subframe but Fastenal has longer ones. more than that, it's only that low in 5th gear and up. in the lower gears it's considerably higher.
