05 ses light - can't reset...
Okay, my SES light came on, just before I was due for an oil change. Took it in for a change, light remained on. Asked service man about it, he fed me a line about all he could access was the tire pressure; his manual for an 05 Z stated he was to use the button which cycles through speed/MPG/tire pressure/temp/etc. to access and reset the SES light. And that it didn't work as his manual indicated.
So I searched online, and found the two methods using the gas pedal and timing to get a code and/or clear the light. I have used a stop watch and tried more than 2 or 3 dozen times, both methods. Cannot get the SES light to blink the code, much less then reset it. I am confident that at least half of the attempts were timed precisely perfect, the rest more or less right. Am I just going to have to unplug my battery? Are those methods, which I have seen repeated on dozens of sites (including this one) just a major troll someone pulled off? Or is my car just unusual and doesn't accept them? |
You may want to take your Z to a local parts store and use their scanner, first get the fault code before you clear it. This way you can check out what triggered it in the event it comes back.

You might want to get the code read and then fix the problem. I suspect something is causing the light to illuminate.

Supposedly these reset methods give you the code before you reset it - as long as you take the time to count the flashes, etc. But I cannot even get that part to work. That is one of the reasons I didn't want to just unhook the battery.

Read the code and it will tell you what is wrong. Cant find out what the issue is until you do that. There also could be pending codes as welln

when was the last time you change ur spark plugs? same issue here but i change mine and it went away :thumbup:

The SES light ON and oil change (or any preventive maintenance) is a coincidence. One is not related to the other.

Okay, first - the reason I related it to an oil change; the last time I had an oil change (actually, 2 or 3 changes ago), the SES light came on just before the change, and it was reset after. Perhaps the mechanic simply reset it without alerting me to the codes, perhaps he fixed it, or perhaps it was coincidental. In any event, it seemed to be related.
Second, I did go get the codes read. There were 6 of them, but #5 was the same as #1, and #6 was the same as #2. P1148 - Closed Loop Control (Right Bank -B1) P1276 - AFS B1S1 Circuit High Voltage P1278 - not valid code for this vehicle (???) P1279 - not valid code for this vehicle (???) P1148 - Closed Loop Control (Right Bank -B1) P1276 - AFS B1S1 Circuit High Voltage The light was reset after obtaining the codes. That was this morning. I enjoyed most of a day with no SES light, but now it has come on again. So how does it throw a code not valid for this make and model of a vehicle? Where can I find what it means? The two codes it did throw both seem related to the PCM or AFS - any educated guesses what may be wrong? |

Google search: 350z check engine codes. There will be a thread on a z forum with them all listed and details of each. For those two codes not able to be read I've read it could be something like an o2 sensor |
It seems these are all based on AF Sensor 1, B1 ... now how serious an issue is this likely to be?

Fuel pressure Fuel injector Intake air leaks Air Flow MeterTech notes and for the B1 code there is one maybe two fuses in the fuse panel by they pedals one is labeled O2 this this only works for z that have wide-band style primary o2 sensors, or your o2 sensors on front of the catalytic converter are bad and need replacing. some one correct me im half asleep here just got off work so correct me if im wrong plz |
