Tow hooks + jacking up car
 

Has anyone ever attempted to lift the car using the tow hooks? I saw a picture of a bmw being raised that way and it made me wonder if it could be done on a 350Z. I'm thinking of this in the situation that the car is so low that you could use that to get it started and then jack it up from the side, etc.

get a racing jack.. they are low.

Or drive onto some 2x6's that are beveled on one end.

Thanks, but besides that, has anyone tried? The mount and the tow hook are pretty beefy so...

i wouldnt do it, it is called a tow hook and not a lift hook for a reason

Don't do it, its not designed to handle the load that way, its meant to be pulled on, not used as a jacking point.

meh, let him do it... then he will post something like "help, tow hook ripped off my front end"

Or "bent tow hook/bumper up, how to straighten it out?"

Or the jack slipped off the tow hook and the Z crashed onto my foot...

OP- just don't try this, there are plenty of reasons NOT to and plenty to go wrong if you do.

here's some info that may be usefull to you OP

Post the picture of said BMW lifted by using its tow hook.

Don't be lazy and jack it up the correct way IMO. Tow hook is made to tow pull and not to lift up. Drive it on wood enough to get jack under and that's it. Costs you couple dollars to get the wood.

btw I guess some folks didnt read my original post where I said, "to get it started and then jack it up from the side." :icon14: It seems like it would be ok to lift it up high enough to get enough space to put a jack under the side of the car, but not lift the tire off the ground. know what im sayin??

We understood what you were saying, but you still win the April Fool award. That side pad slots into a frame rail, but the point is, a low profile jack would get under the Z without having to do anything else. :dunno:

That's a jack pad, not a tow hook....

That's sticking out of the side of the car unless BMW has some sort of futuristic wheels on them that move the car forward by spinning sideways.

nevermind :bang: forget it. I know what its for. Im only talking about lifting it just enough to slide a jack under the side.

We read it all...drive the thing on some darn wood that steps up from 2" to 4" which is enough to get a jack underneath it.. that's what I do and mine is not pretty low..show some pics of how low you are then. Doesn't matter. The wood method always works fine.
