Upper oil pan replacement

So today while changing my oil I decided to Change out a bad oil sensor. Ya that was a huge mistake. My question is , has anyone had any success with changing the upper oil pan out without pulling the motor?Thanks |
Either pull the motor or drop the front subframe with the motor supported. Its gonna be a huge pain.

pull the block...and while the block is out install a built motor and nothing goes better with a built motor like twin turbos...

I gona look at it today to see if it will be easier to pull the subframe and do it that way instead of pulling the whole motor.

pulling the motor would be best. You have a lot of sealing surfaces to rework.

Ill probably do that. Ive been reading on here and people are saying that the upper oil pan is around $100 from the dealer. The dealer near me wants $300 for it and I saw online at another dealer it was $205. Anyone have a good source for the upper oil pan? Thanks again

I just removed my upper oil pan to get my timing cover installed.
Once you jack the engine up using a engine support bar like the one in the picture, and pull the front cross-member, it's not to bad. I got the support bar at Harbor Freight for about $70.00 |
You could disconnect the trans, exhaust and motor mounts and just lift (with a hoist) the engine 6 - 12 inches or so. i did it without disconnecting anything and could only get it about 4 inches, but i was able to pull the upper pan and clean the gasket material and re-gasket it. It was a huge pain in the ass. but so is pulling the engine.

I've got to do something similar (replacing oil pump, timing chain etc), and I am buying the same kind of engine support bar. Where is good to support it on the engine ? + straps or chains ? |

I’m a bit late but I’d like to answer what I did both times I removed the upper oil pan. I used an engine hoist. Somehow I got it out the first time without removing the crossmember but I couldn’t remember how on the second time so I dropped it. I used a seat belt to secure it as I couldn’t find a good spot to attach my load leveler. And I think I just wrapped it around the exhaust manifolds. I'm doing the work from this weekend onward. I have the support bar, and I bought a couple of 1ton supporting straps too, and from what I can see they'll go under the engine mount brackets. I'll link up some photo's once I get down to it ! :thumbup: |

Can you tell me how you secured it to the engine? Im about to do this weekend and remove the subframe but I cant find any resources on telling me how to secure the engine. I read that Nissan uses engine slinger. Did you buy them? These mount to the engine it seems. Thanks in advance.
