Woops i hit a Curb, HELP!

So about a month ago i was driving and caught dirt and lost control of my Z and the front right wheel hit a curb pretty decently. LUCKILY, i had no body damage or anything, my n1 rep lip got torn off, the alignment and steering was messed up so... I took it to a repair shop they replaced the front right control arm (thats what they said was wrong) , i took it to an alignment shop and they said my caster was off by 3 degrees , It drives like it did before (amazing) but when i go to the free way the front right wheel "whirls" took it back and said took fix it i need a new wheel bearing :dunno::dunno: Help me out:suicide: (04 Touring , JWT intake, TEIN lowering springs, and a muffler delete) Help me out guys thank you. |
A curb will definitely **** up bearings and that "whirl" sound is associated with them being bad. One way to verify: jack up the front end and see if there is any play in the wheel (feels loose). Unless you want to press in new bearings you will need a new hub. They are not that expensive.

Welcome- hitting a curb is never lucky and you suffered significant damage from the look of that wheel. Do you have any mechanical skills? Changing out a wheel bearing (usually a full hub) is not difficult and there are DIYs on how to do it.

Hitting a curb can bend any and all front components. Your caster is off cause you still have a bent component up front.

You should also have that wheel checked by a wheel specialist. The outer or inner may be bent and the tire will never track straight without repair. You really need someone with a dial indicator to spin the alloy wheel up and determine how much run-out the wheel has.

As others said, you should go have it checked out. When I hit the curb with my B13, it was maybe at 5-10 mph, I couldn't believe the amount of damage. I bent the wheel, bent the control arm, damaged the wheel bearing, and inner & outer tie rods. Granted it was a much older and cheaper car, but just saying in general, there are SO MANY components that can be affected by hitting a curb, so I would get it checked out.
With that being said, it only does it on the highway at higher speed? If so I would be more inclined to think something is wrong with the wheel rather than the bearing. For me at least, the bearing made the most noise when pressure was put on it, such as hitting the breaks, or turning to the right (it was the left front) |
