Need to change the tranny and rear diff oil, any suggestions?

Good Morning,
I have a 2006 Nissan 350Z and it is a manual transmission. I bought it off e-bay because I was broke and my tranny died and swapped it out, so far it's running well. It's been a month and nothing weird.

I know nothing about this transmission though. I wasn't given any info other than the miles. At this point, I don't care. It works great and was either pulled off a salvage or refurbished. But I'm gonna be picky about the gear oil I put in.

I put in some generic stuff so when I drain it (I intend to do this within the month), I can see if there is any rust or metal shavings.

I have been looking at Redline MT-85 and I'm probably gonna go ahead and buy that. Does anyone have any suggestions for oil for the rear diff too?
Thank you!

Search is your friend.

Believe it or not, you are not the first person in this car's 16 years of existence, to change trans and diff oil.

Really not trying to be a dick but it's literally been covered 100's of times here.

I gotcha, figured I'd ask anyway. Worst case scenario, someone gets annoyed.
And it was search that led me to the MT-85, I haven't done a whole lot of transmission work in recent years so if anyone has any additives or anything to suggest, I asked.

I have used redline in both the z and the vette, good stuff

I ordered some Redline but the rear diff oil from redline looks pretty expensive considering I just dropped $50 for the transmission.

Does it sound like an awful idea to use Valvoline 80w-90?

i would use oem nissan over Valvoline

redline is pricey

+ 1 for Redline, sometimes you get what you pay for.

If it is too pricey to do both now you could always wait a month or 2 in order to do the diff and just get redline.
Redline is definitely great fluid to use and both CZP and z1 has options when buying a new tranny to get the fluid as well.

get the redline.

if you are complaining about spending $50 on a trans, maybe a sports car isnt for you

While I use MT-85 in both my race and street Zs, the diff lubricant is a bit different. As long as it's a GL-5 rated synthetic, in the factory recommended viscosity range, I think you'll be OK in either the open or VLSD.
