just got back from a photo shoot!

im normally too lazy to take pictures of my car, but today was a special occasion. i was driving to l.a. to pick up some sway bars and on the way back heard this clicking noise very similar to istan's cracked rim problem. i pull off to the side and right when i stop the car sinks. the rim snapped off on all of the spokes. i was way lucky it snapped after i had stopped. my rims are also powder coated.

Ouch, luckily the wheel did not come off while driving.

annahandres 04-19-2008 05:50 PM

Ouch... do you think the powdercoating process weakened it or something? How does that just happen under normal driving conditions?

no clue. but i have a feeling it may be responsible. its very similar to istan's experience.

i suppose it might have something to do with it. i think ive read somewhere that it happens on non-powder coated stockers also.

seriously. i felt so lucky that it happened the instant i stopped at the curb. what sucked was trying to remove the lugnuts.. i had no leverage with the thing spinning freely. :)

CSF 04-19-2008 07:54 PM

omg...i had no idea that powdercoating could possibly cause this.

Ichigo 04-19-2008 08:00 PM

Go buy a lottery ticket

glad your ok

ARMSTRONGARMS 04-19-2008 08:03 PM

Gawd damn that is not what i was expecting while reading thread title. Damn glad your ok.

Vertex350 04-19-2008 08:11 PM

Not what I was expecting either. But glad you're ok and you slowed to a safe stop before the wheel fell apart.

tware 04-19-2008 08:29 PM

find out of they baked off the OEM paint (500F+) before PC'ing.. I bet they did :(

carfi179 04-19-2008 08:44 PM

^Good point, damn even Rota wheels dont break like that...

Marino Z 04-19-2008 09:46 PM

holy sh*t that's crazy...

I wonder if nissan will cover the wheels since they are pced.

iStan 04-19-2008 09:51 PM

OMG. I am so sorry to hear. I don't think it was shortly after I sold you the rims (NON Powdercoated, he did it himself) I cracked my first rim. I was lucky though and discovered all three of my cracked rims before they got to this point.

Those rims had dealer mileage only. They came off of a showroom Z here and should have had <10 miles before you got them.

:(

probably not.. warranty ended recently. the tire is still good so its not too much of a lost. just need to check the alignment to see if anything has been bent.

AREITU 04-19-2008 09:59 PM

ouch...

this is worse than the time I found out all my lugnuts were only hand-tightened after an oil change & rotation
