Haha. Okay, I know from experience because I have done this swap. It is NOT difficult. It's also not easier if you take the motor out. Me and my mechanic knocked the entire swap in less than 8 hours, and that was split into two days. There is a 5AT to 6MT swap thread here in the DIY section. OP, if you follow that and order EVERY part on that list, then that is all you need. If you aren't familiar with how a manual transmission system works (clutch, hydraulics, etc), then research. Trust me, it will help. Every time a 6spd swap comment comes up, everyone says it's not worth it, or that it's a pain in the @ss. It's not. Basically, think about it this way... It's as if you were changing a clutch. You drop the tranny, install clutch, bolt everything back on, and boom, done. Everything else is OEM bolt on. With the exception of adding a clutch pedal, bolting the master cylinder, and the simple wire jump you have to do. Which again, is not difficult. It all depends on you or your mechanics ability and knowledge.

The best way to do it, is to have a friend who is a mechanic that can that can cut you a deal on the labor. I would never go to a shop, because those guys will charge at least 5-6K+ for a job like this, and that's just labor. If you do your homework, it can be done.

YES! ^

That is the answer I was hoping to get from someone. So many people make it seem like the swap is extremely hard, not worth it, waste of time and money. They tell you to sell your car and buy a manual or trade it in. What if I want THIS car? At the time I was buying my car, there was literally no other z in better condition. How could I pass up an 08 with 13k miles?

So thank you, drvqz33. I have done my research and have a few close friends that would help me with the swap. BUT, it won't happen very soon. I have a few other things lined up before the swap so maybe around September.

No problem dude. Keep in mind it can take a while to source parts.. Maybe start looking into parts soon and buying them. The way I see it is, the sooner the better on a trans swap. And you would make a couple of HP gains doing the swap too.

My b, trav. Skimmed right through and missed that.. You're right, the headers are a major kick in the @ss.

Default Update!

Started to take the speaker section out

Lots of hammering, drilling, and cutting.

I cut away most of the false floor, just have to do the sides where the the speakers were and a couple other small things.

This was a good chunk of weight! Also, there is SO much more room in the back now! I can almost fit another seat in there! 😂 Recently I've been looking into some ideas for a cage and I would love to get something to replace the existing rear strut bar.

Something similar to this!
