Wrapping my Z Gloss Atlantis Blue

I'm getting ready to wrap my Z, just waiting on the FedEx truck :icon21:

Thought I might as well document my work, always nice to have some reference pictures for anyone else thinking about wrapping a Z.

I'll be doing it in gloss atlantis blue (color of gas cap).

Since I'm no pro at vinyl wraps, I decided to make things as easy as possible and disassemble a good bit of the car.
To prep, I've removed both bumpers, skirts, door handles, A pillar, and my spoiler. Cleaned everything and removed the trim. Finally, I just finished rubbing the whole car down with a little alcohol to get all the wax off.

I'll update you guys as I go. If anyone cares to share some tips, I'd appreciate it.

Taking a break now. Finished the roof and almost done with the hood. Both were a pita.

Learned to be super careful with heat as I burned a hole in the first roof attempt.

that stuff barely needs any heat at all to install my man. post heating it for adhesion is important tho indeed.

and youll find that the a pillars are much easier to wrap when they are installed on the car.. very little needs to be fully removed to wrap the Z.. its an easy car luckily. :) I hated the bottom of the doors.. under the edge of the hatch by the hinges... and the bumpers.

I just did mine myself as a 1st time diy'r too.

Sweet car bmccann. I've been watching your thread. I picked up 55 feet, primer, and knifeless tape for 477. Best deal I'd seen. With a 10% coupon

Finished the hood. Done for the day.

Door was by far the easiest panel so far. Or maybe I'm getting better. Either way, I'd recommand starting with the door.

Very nice color. It reminds me of the blue of the z06

ksuberk54 07-09-2015 07:10 PM

Damn that's a sweet looking Z.

Don't want to derail the thread, do you have a link to any threads you have posted detailing what kind of wide body treatment you have on your car, and the wheel/tire setup you are running?

I recently saw a very similar setup on a GTR that was parked. It was by far the nicest GTR I have ever seen.

bottlefed97 07-10-2015 05:38 AM

Nice work so far! Which version of the gloss wrap did you buy? There are 9 different gloss versions on their website.

If you're talking about brand any of those will work. You just have to decide on color since every company makes different colors and shades. IIRC Atlantis Blue is 3m 1080.

G4nismo 07-10-2015 12:35 PM

diggin that smurf blue color fo sho

Fridge Gnome 07-10-2015 03:10 PM

Yup 3m 1080 Gloss Atlantis Blue.

I'd assume most of the top brands are pretty similar, so it mostly about what color you want.

Finished both front fenders, the front bumper, and 1 A pillar today. There's a car show Sunday, so I'm hoping to finish everything up tomorrow.

Front fenders weren't too bad. Harder than rear fenders but not too bad. Front bumper was the worst :suicide:. Dreading the rear bumper.

All in all, it's been about 20 hours of work so far. I don't know how that compares to other people, so maybe I'm just slow.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow, phones dead.

Fridge Gnome 07-12-2015 07:17 AM

Just about finished. Rear bumper took FOREVER.

Still have mirrors, spoiler, and mudguards to do.
