Default Clutch time

My clutch has started slipping, so I need to replace it soon. I'm catching back up on clutch stuff in the drivetrain forum, but would welcome any suggestions anyone here has - I'm looking to do lightweight flywheel & clutch. My Z is NA right now, but I can see SC in its future.

The big thing I'm looking for suggestions for a shop to have a flywheel & clutch installed. I'm in Fairfax, and work at GMU, so places nearby would be great. I bought my 2004 roadster used, and got an extended warranty, so I've used the dealership so far for the things I haven't done myself (mostly issues with the roadster top - looks like they finally sorted that out).

I recall seeing a thread in here a week or two ago, but I haven't been able to find it with search. Maybe since it was a thread talking about shops it vanished...

if you want an oem style clutch thats gonna hold more power just do the jwt clutch and flywheel, i got it and its held over 15k miles on my turbo setup. it will be than adequete for na and sc. Function tuned is in Dulles VA, dont know how far that is from you but they do good work and know what there doing.

People might recommend a more aggressive clutch but IMHO it would be unnecessary for your goals and cost alot more

My car used to be SC and I have a carbon/carbon twin disc its perfect for the streets, but a lil pricey.

And yes Function:Tuned is a must!

I would recommend ACT as well. It holds up much better than a JWT.

I've been leaning towards ACT. I wasn't sure if the prolite would be 'too' light, or not - glad to hear you like it.

I got Karl's Carbonetic Twin Disc with a 9lb flywheel out of the Mistress and for the two days/200 miles I got to use it I liked it alot. Slightly grabby, but almost no chatter. If you can find a used high end carbon clutch it may be what you are looking for .

Went with ACT 6-puck sprung, and streetlite flywheel. I wanted to prolite, but they are backordered, and a streetlite was shipped to me (I was pissed that they changed the order without asking me, but I think I would have ended up with this combo anyways).

My car's at Function Tuned right now. Just got a call from Dave -- she's done!

This setup is so much better than stock! I really hated that mushy clutch.

I do get a bit of the cement mixer noise, but I was prepared for that. It's not bad, and only happens at low RPMs. I do wish I had ordered earlier, and got a prolite flywheel instead of the streetlite. The RPMs drop slower than I wish, and upshifting is jerky if I don't let the RPMs fall enough (on the OEM clutch I only paid attention to rev-matching when downshifting).

Since my extended warranty is now expired, I've started looking into the vortech supercharger. My Z is my DD, so I don't want the extra stress of turbo. Also, I feel comfortable doing the Vortech install myself. At any rate, the Vortech/whatever fund has been started.

Yay! Another FI'ed Z on the way! Seriously you can't say you own a Z in Mid-A unless you're FI'ed these days.

You are going to go turbo eventually (like every other supercharged person did). So, might as well do it right first.
