Some Moron Dinged Me and DIDN'T want to give me his Insurance Info!!!

My gf and I had rushed to Home Depot prior to closing hours to grab some plants. I survey the area for the ideal parking spot which will be the furthest away from other vehicles.

"this looks like a safe spot," I turned into an area with absolutely nothing around me but 1 other car 5 spaces to the left.

We walked in and bought our goods, 10 minutes later we walked out to find a Ford F-150 pickup parked right next to us. I eyed the gentleman as I see him opening the door, which flung toward my driver's side quarter panel as I stared in shock as the door literally "bounced" right off the sheet metal.

"oh HELLLZ naw he didn't just do that..." There is a GOOD reason why I park this far away. I quickened my pace as I walked toward to scene, wishing, praying that there would be no ding/dent/paint chip.

His truck was white, and low and behold: a white paint spot. I gave the spot a good rub and the paint had chipped off where the impact occurred. It measured 3mm's wide, 2mm's high.

Most people wouldn't recognize the damage had been done since it was so small, but in this case it wasn't about the damage, it was about the respect.

"You hit my rear quarter panel when you opened your door sir."

"I did? Where?"

"Here" as I pointed to the spot.

He peeped closer. "It was there before." Good thing I dressed like a total homeless person/nerd that day in order to catch them off guard.

"I can prove it to you, open your door again." I guide the door as it landed right on the spot where the impact had occurred... paint matching and all.

"As you can see, my car is not white, it's silver. Unless my rear quarter panels grew legs and kicked your car, the only logical explanation is that you dinged me. On top of that, I saw you do it."

"oh well, okay, it's not that bad looking."

"Sir, I'm going to need your insurance information." as I glared at him waiting for him to hand me over the info.

"I'm not giving you my insurance information."

"You hit my car, I need your insurance information."

"You can have my business card." He hands me over a construction business card.

"This will not suffice. How do I know the person on this card is you? You could have very well given me anyone's business card. In fact, I have 5 different business cards in my wallet right now! I could easily have pulled any one of these out and have given it to you. I NEED your insurance information."

He was persistent, "I'm not going to give it to you. I need to go, this is my card, call me and I will pay my guy to fix it for you."

"If you leave, I'm going to call the police for a hit and run." I position myself in front of his car as I yelled the plate numbers over to my girlfriend while she wrote them down.

"Okay, if you want to be an a$$hole, here's my fawking insurance card." I nabbed it from his hand and replied, "Why thank you sir," being EXTRA polite. (it gets them MORE mad, LOL!) This of course, was all part of a strategy for him to lose his temper and get extra emotional. Emotions leaves holes in one's logic, thus ripe for the pwnage. The idea was to get him to be extremely angry, thus leading him on the verge of physical violence so I could sue him for assault & battery and get a few G's in the process. Wounds heal faster than your check book, and I knew all the best lawyers in town. Plus, I need a EJ25 swap for the RS anyhow, this will hopefully get me a few steps closer.

"Give me my business card back." he demanded.

".... uh.. why?"

"I don't want you having my business card!" (like it really mattered at this point)

"What's the big deal?" as I was quickly jotting down all his insurance information before he got violent and/or threw any punches. He came literally 8 inches away from my face poking his head through the driver's side window and demanded his business card back.

"I don't see why you're so upset, you're the one that gave it to me in the first place, so I'm not giving it back."

"If you don't give me back my business card I will call the police!"

"Ha Ha! Go ahead! Make sure to tell them you're the one that gave it to me in the first place!" He commenced to be verbally abusive, yelling, and cursing. My girlfriend got concerned and feared that he would hit me so she dialed 911. Heck, I hope he does! A decade ago, my cousin taught me to just "thank people" when you cut them off instead of flicking them the middle finger when they lay the horn on ya; you'll get them even MORE pissed! This same theory applied here, I simply acted EXTRA nice to raise the heat. Smiles and all from ear to ear. This fool has absolutely no idea what he's getting himself into, and I was loving every second of it. I guess I was suppose to be scared (looking like a nerd and all... borderlining Steve Urkel) he could use his anger and his powers of intimidation to somehow convince me to give him his card back. (Which made no logical sense btw) I gave him a simple answer, "NO"

He gets fustrated with me and says, "Go ahead! CALL THE POLICE!!!"

"well sir, what does it look like she's doing?" as we both glanced over to my girlfriend, who had the 911 operator on the line.

His tone of voice immediately switched, "........why are you calling the police!?"

"you told me to." He calmed down a bit after he knew the authorities were coming. My girlfriend handed me the phone. I picked up and said, "Yes, there is a man who hit my car, and he's now verbally harassing me with the A word, S word, F word, and every word you can possibly think of. I'm at the Home Depot in Fairfax."

The cops were heading our way.

He turns over to me, "Don't you dare call my insurance! I will pay out of pocket if I need to!"

"What does it matter who I call? You're going to pay for it either way insurance or not."

"I don't want to claim this, this is such a small ding! You have dings everywhere, you need your whole car repainted anyway! See this dent? *he points at a small imperfection* this was there before, you need it fixed, you need a lot of things fixed on this car!!"

"Then I thank you for contributing to my car's first step to becoming 100% freshly painted starting with this quarter panel."

"Where are you from? What country?"

"What does it matter?"

"My question matters, where are you from!?"

"I'm from Sparta."

"You are not from Sparta, where are you from?"

[commence BS]
"Yes, my grandma is still in Sparta, and I need to visit her since I haven't in awhile but I haven't had any money to do so.... but I guess I have some now!" *big cheesey smile* :D My girlfriend chuckled in the background.

I suppose if I was from a certain Asian country, he would have mentioned something racially to justify my behavior of being such an "a$$hole." I overheard him talking to his friend over the phone, "This a$$hole this, this a$$hole that, fawking this, fawking that, this is stupid, I will be there at 7:45." He sounds quite angry, I surely hope he gets out of his car and tries to fight me. *cross fingers* Haven't had any good law suits since my last incident 2 yrs back, (got stabbed) that fool had to pay out the a$$!!! Time for something a little more.... entertaining!

The next thing he said to me was totally amusing:

"Hey, don't you dare call my insurance. I will sue you and bring you to court if you call my insurance." Wait... he's going to take ME to court... for calling his insurance because HE hit me?! Who's he going to sue? Himself? This guy makes no sense whatsoever! Empty threats without any basis of foundation, or in this case, it's not even believable. There's an on-going joke about Asians (me) and Middle Easterns (him):

Asians and Middle Easterns can never do business with one another. Middle Easterns will always try to get the lowest discounted price, and Asians will never give you one (or vice versa.) In this case, it happened to be true. I respond to his attempt to sue me with, "Go right on ahead!" I know how the court systems work, I'm not a moron, the chances of him actually winning is... well... ZERO. "Take me to court! I personally know all the best lawyers in the area, and guess what? After I win, you're going to be paying for them! You're going to tell them you're suing me for calling your insurance after you're the one that hit me? WOW... I wonder what the judge will say?!" He must've thought I was some inexperienced 17 yr old noob who just got his license. Dishing out legal threats on a guy who went to law school is probably the best darn idea I've seen anyone pull.

He got quiet, just in time for the police to arrive at the scene. The officer made sure we traded information, and I made sure I had an official police report to rack up my evidence trail.

After he realized there's absolutely no chance in winning, he gave up and said "let me fix your car, I know a guy that can do it really well and I trust him."

"How about, I take it to where I want to take it: D&V Autobody"

"That shop could be your uncle's or your cousin's shop, I can't trust them."

"It doesn't matter, because I need it fixed, and I need it fixed ASAP! I only trust one shop and one shop only. Keep in mind this is MY CAR, I'll take it to whomever I want."

He attempted to try to persuade me into going with this shady bodyshop guy. Uhh.. I'm not stupid. He's going there only because its cheaper. Now if I had any other color car I would consider, but this is silver. "Do you have any idea how HARD it is to match silver? You have a white truck, you should know unless you've never had any work done to your car."

"No No No, you call me, and I will pay out of pocket to fix it at my guy's shop." I pretended to listen so he can feel secure knowing I might actually go there.

If he wasn't such a prick giving me a hard time, I probably would have let it slide since you can barely see the chip anyways.... okay... well maybe I wouldn't ;) However, its the LAW to trade insurance information if you hit someone. Since this guy wanted to be a hard-a$$ at first, then brush me off to some backyard shady bodyshop dude, screw this Motha F'er! I'll raise all hell!!! This guy is SO going down. Long story short, got home and immediately reported it to his insurance (which happen to be the same company I use as well.) Since the damage is close to the rear bumper, the rear bumper may have to be blended if the area gets repaired driving up costs dramatically. All good news to me. His insurance called me this morning and we scheduled an appointment for Wednesday: they're going to pay for all my new mods!!... errr... I meant... umm... repairs!

All I can say is brown people + NVA + small car dealerships and or repair shops is like....

well I can't think of something that can match it. Just run!

"oh that? no problem I have my guy fix it, no extra charge, same price!"

"but you said it was perfect in the listing but it clearly has 4K worth of damage and its spray painted, why is it perfect but now its not?"

"oh, it just happened, my guy fix, no problem, same price for you, no extra charge"

Sigh.

I've been in your position before however I was the one who caused the ding. I accidentally hit this guys door and left a TINY chip on his passenger side door. I immediately accepted responsibility and was extremely apologetic and he still wanted me to pay to repaint his entire door :icon22:. I reasoned with him for like 20 minutes and ended up giving him $20 bucks for some touch up paint that he reluctantly took. I just don't understand people who are always trying to make a buck off someone else.....

OP would you have still pursued his insurance company to make a claim if he hadn't act like a d-bag?

WoW! Definitely need to take some pointers from this. Some Spanish guy dinged me at the metro lot while I was sitting in my car. I got out to confront him and he took off running/apoligizing in broken English.
By the looks of what he was driving, I doubt he even had insurance....
