Power Shifting help

Hey i got a quick question. I know power shifting is not the best thing for your engine, but it is okay once in awhile. Well anyway, if im at the drag strip, what gears shoudl i powershift through to pick up some extra time????

Power shifting = speed shifting = flat shifting. :)

When racing I usually speed shift the 1-2 shift and the 3-4 shift. On the 2-3 shift (the hardest and easiest to screw up) I quick shift which means clutch in and off the gas as quickly as possible.

No. You use the clutch but you don't lift off the gas when you shift.

power shifting will run your clutch down.

so what is shifting without the clutch called then?

thats called stupid shifting and usually u can't do that with nissan's and most imports. But in domestics their gears are squares so u can jam the gears in. As for imports the gears are triangular shaped.

I dont know about plausability or reliability of the engine(tho Im pretty sure your gonna grind a good bit while learning and whenever your concentration goes under 130%)

but in this case youd have to match revs perfectly just to be able to get it into gear. I dont always powershift, but I shift faster than the RPMs will drop, so if you wait for RPMs to drop all that way, I dont see what benifit your getting, other than resting your left leg.

i dont think powershifting helps ur times but i do it when i want my back wheels to give a nice spin in 2nd gear sometimes my tail comes out a little bit, it really intimidates ppl :)

My problem with power shifting?
1: Missed shift = DEEEEEP into redline
2: Woo Hoo i just spun my tires, i'm slower
3: Who me, i got plenty of cash for a new clutch and tires

Speed shift it :) , when i speed shift i am actually taking the gear selector out of gear before th clutch is fully disengaged, and selecting the next gear AS the clutch engages, this is HAS resulted in some ugly redline antics the one or two times i got hung up on the 1-2 gate :(

thats a load of BS.....you can shift ANY manual car without a clutch.....it can be dificult to do sometimes but all you have to do is yank it outta gear and then kinda push it towards the next gear and when you feel the gear stick it in gear. Its about the syncros and gear meshing.

Yup sure does. But a clutch is one of those things that you have to replce every so often when you race alot. Kind of like tires and brake pads. 800.00 clutch every couple of seasons is not that bad.

Kind of like saying heating your tires wears them out.
