Another great day at Blackhawk!:D

Only 40 or so cars, but 2 Z's. Mine and a friends Black Track. He killed me by about 10 seconds a lap at my 1st HSDE, now I'm "only" 2 seconds adrift.:D We both had our OEM 040's, yet IMO, we did pretty well. His Stillen Exhaust MUST have given him the 2 sec advantage!

I wish more Mid-westerners would track their cars.....It's what they are made for, damn it!

I'll post some times:

I wish more track events were on weekends... it's what they are made for, damn it!

:D

Dax, tracks are much more expensive to rent on weekends, that is why they are usually on weekdays.

BUT, September 27 & 28, there will be track HSDE at BEAUTIFUL Road America. They are offering touring sessions both days during lunch time. Slower speeds.......no helmet required, passengers allowed.

Redline350Z 07-15-2003 09:52 PM

Aw, man... why did it have to be that weekend? I'll be in Indianapolis September 26-28 for the USGP Formula 1 race. I guess I'll just have to do my high speed driving in dense residential areas with lots of children until next summer. :icon10:

How far in advance are the track events that you attend typically scheduled? These days I have to ask for vacation time 6+ months in advance, and I usually hear about these things a few weeks before they happen. Is there some kind of mailing list or something that I can sign up for to hear about track events?

See ya at the A to Z Autocross in a few weeks...

EnthuZ 07-15-2003 10:25 PM

I did the Indy F1 the 2nd year....be sure to get there Fri. & Sat. You can sit anywhere, for like only $10 Fri & $20 Sat! Consider some ear plugs too. F1 cars SCREAM!

As to scheduling track days, my limited experience shows that most clubs don't finalize dates till late winter/early spring. BUT, CAROC has put on the RA event the same weekend for like 20 years running! :D

Maybe by next year they'll be an ECU for the Z to allow 19,000 RPM's! :D

IndySmooth 07-15-2003 10:57 PM

As the name suggests, I am, indeed, from Indy.

Feel free to cruise the inner city school zones at triple digit speeds.

Just make sure you drive fast and turn left a lot. Its what we do best =)

btw, I-465 is one giant loop all the way around the city. Coincidence? I think not...

Redline350Z 07-15-2003 11:13 PM

I was at the race for the first time last year and couldn't get enough of that 19,000 RPM music! :icon9:

My seats are about 25 feet past the apex of turn one, so I've got a great view of the pit exit and the MAJOR brake/passing zone at the end of the straight into turns one, two, three, and four. Fantastic seats, and no need for ear plugs since the rear of the car doesn't point directly at me.

At last year's practice on Saturday, I slipped down to a break in the concrete wall to take some pictures with my digital camera. The cars were so fast that I had to press the button on the camera well before the car was in the frame, otherwise all I'd get was a shot of the rear wheels! :icon28:

Here's hoping Juan Pablo can leave the Ferrari boys in the dust this year...

Redline350Z 07-15-2003 11:19 PM

Hey IndySmooth, is that "RapidFix" or "QuickFix" or whatever that project is called still going on? I usually use I-465 to bypass the city anyway, but all the extra traffic due to the closure of I-65 was no fun.

IndySmooth 07-16-2003 12:46 AM

HAH. YES....HyperFix is still in effect for two more months.

Basically, downtown at the center of the city we have the spaghetti bowl where I-65 and I-70 converge. The whole area is down to one lane in every direction. Semis are being diverted to go around the outside of the city on I-465 which is causing much more traffic than normal.

Most of our city streets are north/south, east/west so you can go through town and not get lost. Also, there's not much in the way of ghetto. There's some bad neighborhoods, but nothing like the projects in Chicago. The heart of downtown is actually extremely nice at night.

Bottom line, don't go through downtown interstates. Email me if you need any help getting around, especially if you have a Z =o

If you see a white and blue No Tar (no back rotor) Indianapolis PD helicopter flyin around at the track or over the HyperFix, wave....that'd be my motha in the passenger seat runnin the infrared.

Hooser Hospitality at work...

Redline350Z 07-16-2003 09:09 PM

HYPERfix... that was it. I remember laughing when I saw the signs last week, I just couldn't remember what silly name they gave that mess. :)

Indy really is a pretty easy city to get around in. I went to college in Terre Haute, so I was no stranger to the Hooters on 38th street. ;)

IndySmooth 07-17-2003 08:47 AM

Ahah. Been there, done that. They're prettier up on the NE side, tho. Rich men's daughters. Too bad I'm engaged..

;)
