Lightweight BATTERY?
 

I just received my 13.5lb lightweight battery. It's about 1/3 of the size of my stock battery and about 22lbs lighter.

Has anyone installed one yet?

I assume if so, you fabricated some type of mount for the new battery or did you find a store bought solution?

Also, are there any charging issues associated with a lightweight battery??

I got the Dynabat and you know what I did? I used that foam that came packaged with it, along with some duct tape and the stock strapping system, that sucker don't move!!! If I have some time tomorrow, I'll take a pic for you.

what brand did you get?

I'm contemplating Dyna-Batt or Optima, the Optima is about 10lbs more

How much does the stock Batt. weight??

Why dont more people do this? Seems to me that losing 22 pounds for $135 is the greatest dollar per pound mod ever. Maybe im just skeptical but there has to be a downside...:confused: :confused: :confused:

ooooppppsss I didnt read that right. So the stock batt weights 35.5 Lbs!! WOW thats kinda heavy.. I agree with jcr847 that would be good lightweight mod.. What about coldstarts? Battery life? Basicly like he said is there any downsides? Is it a better battery?? hummm time for some reserch on Batteries!!

Well, I just fabricated my own strap out of a 2" X 1/4 steel plate strap. I bent it using a hammer and vice to conform around the top of the battery. I also used some 3/8" wood, cut it to lay into the stock battery tray, painted it black and bolted it in the existing tray. I then drilled holes in the steel strap and bolted it to the tray and the existing loop that was used with the stock mounting strap. I put a thin layer of rubber on the inside of the steel strp to make sure the battery wasn't damaged. There's no way that thing is moving! I purchased one online for $69 plus $7 for the studs. This is the best mod for the buck as far as I'm concerned. For $76, 22lbs is a lot when you add it to all the other lightweight mods! I'll check which brand of battery I bought this afternoon.

Someone mentioned in another thread that the Dynabat gave them problems. It has been my daily driver battery for over 10 months with NO problems whatsoever.

Give this a read you may be surprised , it looks as thou these other batteries are relabled dynabatts and cheaper.

Do any of you know if the lighweight battery is legal for SCCA stock class AutoX? I can't find any mention of them, and I'm guessing they are legal since it would be lame to have to find a replacement battery that exactly matches the stock weight. Anyone know for sure about this?
