Estimation of how much WHP my build will make?
Hey all! I recently have built my VQ35DE for my 2003 350z Track Edition.
How much would you estimate my build will make after being tuned? I will be getting tuned by Saul in SoCal. LIST: nismo headers hks rep exhaust Berks Resonated Test Pipes Plenum spacer 1/2 Inch MREV2 intake manifold ADMIN TUNING 3.5 inch intake Agency power underdrive pulleys 11:1 compression Wiseco pistons Bored out to 96mm (~3.535L)(over .020) PORTED HEADS AND POLISHED 3-ANGLE VALVE JOB Rev-up oil pump (higher rev-limit) UPT stage 2.5 clutch Lightweight flywheel Internals: Wiseco pistons Eagle connecting rods ARP Main + Head studs ACL Race bearings Cometic Head Gasket Crank balanced, block bored and honed, block redecked, oil passages cleaned, etc Thanks! |

So, did you do all of that headwork and just put stock cams back in it?

I'm interested in the results. When are you getting it tuned?

Sorry to say, I suspect WHP will be less than you hope. Nissan did a good job wringing out the NA output when the VQ35DE was first released. Unless you're going to tune with 100 octane race fuel, I'll guess WHP with 91 octane fuel will be around 269, if that.

I agree with DK (for sure) but I think he'll go a little higher seeing that he has a oil pump & internals that can support higher rev, intake & exhaust track work, a slightly higher compression ratio, slightly more engine capacity, and a tune / tuner that can push the engine a little bit further than and OEM setup...

A stock short block, no headwork with cams will make more than a build w/o cams. I would just find another used factory longblock if your building because your current is dead.

On a dynojet (most accurate) with sae corrections in place, I'd say right around 275hp/260tq. The 3.5 intake will carry you above and beyond previous nat.asp. builds that didn't know about the benefit of a larger diameter intake pipe.
Consider the right cams for the intended purpose, a 75mm throttle body or larger and as I understand it, a Velocity intake manifold. I bet these will put you well into the 300/280 range. |
Most depends on who your tuner is. I've yet to see a 350DE NA go over 305 whp with exhaust and cams. LS2 is cheaper...

Thank you all. Reason I didn't go cams is because it was too expensive. The head work and all the machine work was done by a family friend whos been a master machinist for a couple of decades, so all machine work was basically free. I expect to make 270whp or around there, maybe more with the admin intake. Thanks

Cams are where your big difference is going to be.
I did full bolt ons, admin intake + velocity stack, Kinetix velocity, 75mm TB, and tomei 272 cams with tomei springs and made 304whp/280wtq on a stock short block and no head work other than the cams and springs. |

Ah. Yeah, I know you're interested in the HKS V2. I'm sure you'll hit that target and then some.

I made 269 at the wheels on a dynojet on my '05 with the Admin 3.5" intake, 75mm NWP TB, Z1 angled plenum spacer, OEM headers, Berk HFCs, and Motordyne TDX2 on 93 octane.
I'm hoping you get a little higher than me with the added components. |
