I've made the decision. Now what?

I have finally made a firm decision to purchase a Z. I am leaning toward an '05 or '06 Performance or Enthusiast model. I want the manual and love the power leather seats.

Before I start researching mods, is there anything that I need to know about either year model that makes one better? One to avoid? Problems, issues, etc? I saw one thing signing on here about the 06's having a class action suit because of oil consumption???

FWIW I have been driving a Lighting for 5 years and am ready to drive something more than a straight line, BUT HP is important. You can't drop from 500 to 300 and be happy... I can't anyway. But first things first. Is there any difference in those years that I need to be aware of?

Many thanks
Slade

go for an 07, you are taking a gamble with anniversary 05's or early year 06.

07-08's also have more hp than either 05 or 06 and we are starting to see turbo kits for them =)

no 06. there are oil consumption issues that are up in the air. if you have been here for any length of time you must know what the 06 and 05 anniversary folk are going through. if you're not buying new buy anything other than the consumption motor.

If you want the power leather seats then you're looking for the Touring model '05 and '06 or Anniversary Model '05 or Grand Touring '06.

The '05 non-anniversary Z's have the least problems. I've heard oil consumption issues with the '05 Anniv & '06's. Get an '05 non-anniv. & TT it.

Aim for a 07/08 Z, or you'll be kicking yourself later down the road... worth waiting the extra few months until you can afford an new one.

i have a 06 grand touring model......how will i know if i have the oil consumption problem?

hey agent-z

Check your oil every couple of weeks and see if your oil level has gone down i.e. like a quart, from what I've seen most people loose about a quart a every couple thousand miles. I have a 08 z so I don't have that problem but I was looking for a older model at first until I did some research and found out about the oil issue.

I have not been here any length of time. That was my first post. Exactly why I asked. What is there to know that I don't know. If that engine was used in '05's and '06's, what is a 'non-anniversary' 05?

check your oil regularly, if it gets unusually low between changes it has a consumption problem. some cars its ok to lose a little, if if seems to be a lot you have a problem. i dont lose any oil b/w changes on my 03 so i dont think any other model years should either.
